Every now and again I think back to the days of when I played EAW daily and enjoyed it. I used to play on a server called Canada West... at least I think that was it was. I then decided for some reason to move on and only looked back a few times a year. However, I recently played SFC3 over a friends house and enjoyed the romulans and borg quite a bit. How is the multiplayer situation for both? Are there still dozens of players playing a huge campaign like in those days?

We're still kicking. Not quite the numbers there used to be, but the hardcore diehards are all still here and there seems to be a bit of a trend of old players returning, very nice to see.  :)

Canada West / SFC2.net is alive and well and Capt Jeff is planning a "Storm Season 3" server. Currently the active D2 server is S'Cipio's (aka Herr Burt) Economic War... player numbers usually peak around 20-25 players at primetime nowadays.

Not quite sure what is happening with SFC3 but pretty sure its stil alive and well, saw a new server announced recently.

If you want to get into the D2 again, read this thread carefully: http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163359567.0.html

Is orion pirates the only D2 worth playing now? I played EAW only becaue I couldn't afford to play orion pirates. I'm thinking of just rebuying SFC2, it's expansion, and SFC3 in one swoop. How many players during prime time for each? I liked SFC3s system, but I loved the Lyran and ISC ships. Are the servers still using flatfile databases?

You can get Orion priates on several popular auction houses I paid 5 bucks for a spare copy and that included shipping...

OP now contains everything EAW had and MORE....including klingon boom arcs just to name one thing...

Ugh... I hate that game. Too many people think it's great, but I can't see the appeal of constantly worrying about being hunted by pirates... Do you know who they are in the game?

Check Amazon for OP. Usually goes pretty cheap there.
