The HEY Herr Burt "I want my SPARE PARTS BACK" THREAD

The EW Server Has been Fun upp Until Now .....

When your in a Mission that Draws 2 of the NASTY Heavy Cruiser (FRIEGHTERS)  that Spawn ships just about every time U take a mission ..... ITS NOT NICE when U FIND OUT Most of your SPARE pARTS are now GONE ....

Especially when your only able to do a max speed of 25 and the enemy FLEET after your 6 (a$$) is coming at you at speed 30 and u dont even have a chance to charge your weapons.

It tends to be annoying as Hell that u cant keep your engines repaired long enough to do anything but DIE.....

 >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

It WAS a fun server ...

I'll probably catch flack from the rest of the Flying Circus, but:

Econcomic war helpful hint (if you haven't already figured this out):

Charge in full speed, when the freighter drops the hostage, cargo pod and "frigate", whizz by, drop one marine on the hostage, drop one marine on the cargo pod, and before the frigate arms up, blast a hole in the frigate's sheilds and drop remaining marines, circle around and drop more marines on the frigate until you have the upper hand... fly away. While you're circling the uncaptured ships wil fire on the hostage and pod until they run off the map. Once the frigate is captured come back in to hit the freighter.

I have been doing this consistently, usually using less than 5 spare parts.

Ambush missions; just run away... they are always futile on any server. (If its a neutral hex the DV will go down no matter what anyway. ;))

Especially when your only able to do a max speed of 25 and the enemy FLEET after your 6 (a$$) is coming at you at speed 30 and u dont even have a chance to charge your weapons.

Pirate ships can always do speed 31, even those that can't, if you are willing to double your engines for a few moments.

A quick run in at medium speed with engines doubled and a really charged up front shield allows you to get a point blank overloaded alpha strike on the armed freighter or merchantman, while you take no internals yourself.   (The mother freighter has usually very few weapons, so can often be ignored, if you want, until end-game.)  Then break off, hit repair on your engines, and maybe turn off the engine doubling until you are ready for another run.

Bonk gives some good ideas; I usually use the hostages (which have no marines and are thus easily captured) to draw some fire for a salvo.  (they only survive one salvo, but the nearest ship to them will turn off to engage them, which often buys you some seperation.)

Don't forget the cargo pods have spare parts on them, for beaming over after you've used a few of yours.

Also, different ships draw different AI.   You might want to experiment a bit.   I played for 6 hours in a LR I've come to like, and never faced a single convoy except for one ambush mission.   (Where the convoy was the one ambushed; so I had another pirate helping me.)

Dont be silly.  Just kill the ship that launches everything.  Ignore the other ships and stuff, go in, tractor and hit the launching ship crippling it.  Then just pound it till it dies.  When it does, so do all the other things it spawned.   Of course if there is more than one mother ship it then may be a bit of a challenge.

That is fine if you can warp double but it seams that our ships cant warp double and I have been able to , and if you draw more than one ship your screwed

What ship are you flying?   I just created a BeastRaider account, and the starting ship at least doubles just fine.  I had 18 units of power left over at speed 31 with everything armed.

Is it only specific ships you are having trouble doubling with, or the whole list?

I can double just fine. (I'm a Beast Raider too dingdong...)

Sounds like a mod that disables warp doubling was not uninstalled before a manual swap was done...

Try this to turn it back on (use the drop-down):

I've had no problem doubling as a Beast Raider.  It got to be a personal game setting rather than a server one.

Have you tried turning it back on in your sfc.ini with this yet?:

http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/Tools_and_Utilities/OPWarpDoubling.exe

(Pssst Herr Burt, this:
http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/Tools_and_Utilities/SilentDoubling.zip
can be called from a batch installer/swapper as described here:
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163364401.msg1122680416.html#msg1122680416
to ensure what warp doubling is not disabled in a player's sfc.ini file)

That was my first strategy as well, I have since found the one outlined above to be more efficient and easy.

Perhaps it has to do with the ship I use.  That strategy works well for me as I have 4 G torps and 2 drone racks.

4 G torps!!!  :o  (I've got two B-racks, one fusion, four phaser-1s and two phaser-2s)

It works better for me particularly because my ship has two drone racks in the heavy weapon mounts and the Freighter (PFT) and frigate(PF) usually have two adds each, so I find knocking down a sheild on the frigate (PF) with my fusion and phaser-1s to capture it much easier, if the frigate (PF) is not too far away from the freighter (PFT) when captured it will fire on the freighter (PFT) before it runs off the map.

aside: Herr Burt, is it an intentional feature of these custom missions that captured PFs will run off the map or is it an unintended quirk?

Of course one possible alternative would be to allow a few more parts say 15 instead of 10 but boost the cost of spare parts, so restocking them might get expensive.

even 10 spares can give you about 5 minutes straight of warp doubling, but after that you are toast, or "insert pirate name here"
