Borg Tactical Cube panel type 4...pics inside
« on: May 11, 2006, 05:30:26 am »
Here is my texture job on the first of 4 side panel types, the type 4 panel. I'm not sure if I need to add more detail, or lower the brightness of the highest panel....you guys let me know. Note that you should ignore the cube (just a placecard, actually a separate model) and the other panels (in the works, the textures are just coverings right now). Let me know if you think it needs more improvement. Also, note that the lineup of the texture is not perfect, that will be fixed. Thanks.

I think you need alot more variance in the armour

I was about to disagree until I pulled in a bit of research from a website or two:

Borg Tactical Cube screenshot 1 (From Trek Core)
Borg Tactical Cube screenshot 2 (From Trek Core)
Borg Tactical Cube screenshot 3 (From Trek Core)
Borg Tactical Cube screenshot 4 (From Trek Core)
Borg Tactical Cube screenshot 5 (From Trek Core)
Memory Alpha's Borg Tactical Cube page (From, you guessed it, Memory Alpha)

Always nice to have references around.  I did each time I drew, and even then it wasn't so good a drawing. *hits head*

But as far as Raven's Tactical cube goes, it looks pretty good so far as to looking like it came from Voyager (for the most part).

Admittingly I am resistant to the whole "non-symmetrical" idea...I can see how it would make sense from one point of view, considering the opinion that Borg cubes are grown, not constructed, but this is really fanon. There is nothing to say, even if the cube is grown, that the plates could not grow to be symmetrical. I would think that both are possible. I might play with the idea later, but for now I will keep them symmetrical.

One note though...all the plates are different, and there are even corner caps, so anyone can bash it to give it different plates on each side.

I like them.  I'd like to see them on some of your other cubes as well.

In themselves, they are beautiful textures/models, but...

... heeheehee...

... there's this Federation/Starfleet feel to those cubes!  It must be something they assimilated the night before or something!  ;D

After E_Look made that comment, I decided to look at the armor...

I'm pretty sure you can do the Anubis and Cherokee justice.  If you can do pretty good with Borg Tactical Cubes from Voyager, you can do good with non-canon starships from the Sovereign-class lineage.

Thank you for your vote of confidence...I have to admit, I am a bit daunted by the task. I hope I can please the community.

How are the textures right now?  Are the Hull textures and Armor textures seperated or all one piece?  I was wondering because if they were seperated, I would like to take the textures from the FC Cube and add them to it.  If not, could you make one lol, pretty please  ;D

The tactical armor is a separate model, with its own textures. I might even make it separate plates, so people can mix and match when making the mod conversions....I have about 6 different texture sets for the cube, including the FC version, so you can create any kind of cube you want as a tactical varient.
