Do not fear abut the DV50.   The DV's should shift by 5 per mission.  That's only ten missions to swap.

First off, the obvious things you've probably already done.   Switch to cartel layer.  If you are accidentally running missions on your own territory then it will feel as if the DV is not shifting.

Oh dear.....

It should not matter what you install over.  So long as all the original models are still there, you should be good.   (I don't htink that OP 4.0 erases any of the original models.  At least I hope not.)

Go into the folder called EconModels in your main game folder and see if you have a model inside all the content folders.

I'm having a bit of trouble with my gaming machine, but maybe I'll log on with my server machine (briefly) to see if I can tell what is going on.

All right, I found at least one mistake.   It will fix some things, but I don't see why some of the other things people are reporting would be happening.

Nevertheless, give me a few minutes.   Let's see if I can get this thing working the way it was just a few hours ago.  Otherwise I'm going to be quite stressed.

First off, the obvious things you've probably already done.   Switch to cartel layer.  If you are accidentally running missions on your own territory then it will feel as if the DV is not shifting.

I ran all my missions in neutral hexes, 6 of them.  no shift in any of them, won them all

Well, it's the damdest thing.  I log on, and I have all the mission failures that everyone else was having.   Then I log off and on again, and I get good missions, but the DV doesn't shift.    Now I log off and on again, and I get lots of missions and the DV changes properly (for OrionOrion) in nuetrual/neutral,  and neutral/friendly space.  Just as always, I even got the DV shift in neutral/neutral even when I ran from an ambush mision.       I didn't get to try neutral/enemy space, as my IP hiccuped.

I did make some minor (and I mean minor) tweaks with cartels vs. Orions, but other than that all I did was reboot my entire LAN.


Not sure about the restart.    I want to make damn sure this thing is working as it should before I start it up again.   That was quite embaressing to have it go down again so soon, and I'm sure it was very frustrating for all of you too.   It can't be very much fun to reserve your Sunday night and then have the stupid admin not be able to get his game running.

I want to run through all the cartels in all the variations of cartel/empire space and make sure they all shift the DV by 5 like they should.  That might take a while.  I did that a while ago, but obviously something was messing with it toniht.  I also want to check for any possible model errors, and probably I'll clean up some R'd out crap experimental ships that really should have already been taken out of the list.

To make it easiest on all of you, I think it is best to have a 24 hour delay.   That way you aren't hanging around wasting any more time than I've alreayd made you waste

Dunno if we've ever had a perfect launch.
I think everyone's looking forward to this enough that we'll all wait a few more days if needed.

Looking at the shiplist, the Romulans are split into two locations, this could be a problem. It checks out OK with Dave's shiplist checker.

Yeah, I started doing that with the TigerHeart instead, like I've always done in OP when I needed donors.  That seemed to work fine, because it was forever before I tried to test fly the TigerHeart on the D2 instead of in skirmish.  That was when I had my panic because I couldn't create any TigerHeart characters.

However, I figured since no one was playing Romulan this time, I'd use them instead and see what happened.  Seems to work.  At least I can create characters from all cartels now.

I also used to have a blank space between each cartel and each empire, so I could easily jump from faction to faction in Excel.   Took me a while before I realized that the game coudn't see the first ship after a blank line.   So now there are no blank lines.

I don't know if the blank lines had something to do with my inability to create TigerHeart characters or not.

If it is only Romulan donors at the top and the other portion is a complete Romulan list, you can just remove the donors serverside (Spec folder only) and it will correct the issue without a shiplist update. I always just put the whole donor race at the top in one block to avoid this.

This was first revealed on RDSL and is standard DieHard procedure for his shiplist structure strategy, removing the donors from the serverside list that is.

Really?   You can remove the donors from the serverside list?  I didn't know that.

That would also remove the "Failure to Validate" errors you get from the server when you have a split list.   They never seemed to cause any problems in my past servers, but their presence always bugged me.  Errors can't ever be good things, no matter how innocuous.

Removing donors serverside on a split list is an absolute must.  I don't know if you remember RDSL, but Skull, DH and I will never forget that rocky start.  edit: (the remining list of the split race must be a complete list of course)

The Autofilter is your friend. Click the second row (click on the 2 at the left) to select the whole row, then on the menu "Data...Filter...Autofilter".  Excellent tool for shiplist analysis. Then check the dropdowns

edit: I usually "Window...Freeze panes" as well with cell F3 selected before applying the autofilter.

Then before saving I remove the autofilter and unfreeze the panes, though I don't think that makes any difference.

Use care when editing (especially copying and pasting rows) with the autofilter on to avoid race discontinuities, the autofilter is mostly handy for analysis, allowing to filter the list by any column...or multiple columns - most useful. (say, for light cruisers carrying PFs) You can also apply custom conditional filters with it too...

edit: also, the autofilter is disturbed by blank rows much as the dynaverse server is, it will only filter up to the first blank row.

Yup, the server would have been unable to create mission AI as it would only have seen the donors at the top of the list.

The shiplist must not only provide ships that are available to create server AI characters for all years the server will run, it must also provide sufficient ships to create mission AI for all years the server will run for all mission conditions.

It usually requires a lot of people and a lot of time.

You guys do it in a short amount of time, usually by yourselves.

So you gonna miss details.

Besides... it is very difficult for men to look at details.

It requires them to use both sides of their brains.

So I understand, wholeheartedly, that you have done your very best, as a man.

And I applaud you for trying to attemt to think like a woman!!!

I agree, and no matter what thanks to you Admins who work your butts, or Herr Butts off, for our fun and pleasure.  I still had fun last night practicing on GSA, I got my ass spanked repeatedly so hard that this morning it is still painfull to sit in my office chair.

You ever fly GSA, it would be nice to practice against someone who hasn't memorized every damn ship in the game, and knows every hot key like the back of their hand.  Plus you could balance the team opposite me ,..

Good luck with your Pirating even if your a competing clan !  At least with me there is honor among thieves/Pirates.

skaren...your not supposed to know the hotkey configuration like the back of your hand...You change the hotkey configuration so that it IS the back of your hand.  I've set mine up so that my most commonly used buttons are right where I want them.  Then theres the ever popular delete button...I think it gets used more often than the Z button button does now.    I find it odd that "Flee Now" didn't come with a default binding...its so useful.

Furthermore I often host "super battle nights" for a group of 10 folks so if I start changing my setup then if someone has to fly on my machine I put them hurting for their campaign battles.

Lastly sometime other folks will host a game at their house,.. so then I have to change the setup if I fly over there,....  As a group we decided to stick with standard setups so that as people shift around seats to get campaign battles done, we are not tying up vauluble game time re-configuring machines each battle. 

On some battle nights there can be several 6 player campaign battles, each one involving different folks.  You can imagine the nightmare as games fired up and keyboards were missconfigured,.. the screams of "restart the game",.. I can almost hear them now
