You can't do it.
« on: May 05, 2006, 08:58:14 pm »
"You can't come back after two years and think you can do it.
I mean, what are you thinking!!!
And don't think that you can "female" yourself out of every situation."

"Oh, please be quiet!!!
Do you want to go without a day's worth of seeds, yet AGAIN?!!!"

"I've gotten used to it, Anne.
It won't be the first time and it won't be the last.
But if you listen to me..."

"SHUT UP!!!!!"

Anne turns and looks into the hazy mirror. She touches the cold metal which now covers her left eye. "I'm beginning to get used to the sight", she thinks to herself.  "Sight"... She manages a chuckle at the pun.

Moving her head slowly side to side she admires the three diamond solitaires that mark where her patch was surgically attached.  That was a touch of glamour that she asked for to "dress up" the patch.

What she couldn't understand was how her "shoulder brat" managed to obtain the exact same injuries, even down to the double scar marks on her cheek.

She reaches up to touch her left cheek.  The pain is nearly gone.... well, the physical pain.

Sighing she turns away looking once again at the "nuisance on a perch"

"Alright, I'll feed you!!! That will at least keep you quiet for a short time.
LOL!!! Maybe I should make you eat continuously, then you will silent and get fat. Then I will eat you!!"

"Oh, you have used that empty threat for the last year, so bite me!!"

Anne squints her eyes at the "feathery foul" and without looking away she reaches for the seeds, fills the cup, then moves to her bed.

Dropping down on the edge, she places her head in her hands.

"I need to think.  That is all."

Common antipsychotic drugs
Commonly used antipsychotic medications are listed below by drug group. Trade names appear in brackets.

Typical antipsychotics:
Phenothiazines:
Chlorpromazine (Thorazine®)
Fluphenazine (Prolixin®) - Available in decanoate (long acting) form
Perphenazine (Trilafon®)
Prochlorperazine (Compazine®)
Thioridazine (Mellaril®)
Trifluoperazine (Stelazine®)
Haloperidol (Haldol®)- Available in decanoate (long acting) form
Pimozide (Orap®) - Used to treat Tourette's Syndrome
Atypical antipsychotics:
Clozapine (Clozaril®)- Requires weekly to every two week CBC (FBC) due to risk of agranulocytosis (severe decrease of white blood cells).
Olanzapine (Zyprexa®) - Used to treate psychotic disorders including acute manic episodes and maintenance of bipolar disorder. Dosing 2.5 mg to 20 mg per day. Comes in a form that quickly dissovles in the mouth (Zyprexa Zydis). May cause appetite increase, weight gain and altered glucose metabolism leading to an increased risk of diabetes mellitus.
Risperidone (Risperdal®) - Dosing 0.25 - 6 mg per day and is titrated upward; divided dosing is recommended until initial titration is completed at which time the drug can be administered once daily. Available in long-acting form (Risperdal Consta that is administered every 2 weeks; usual dose is 25 mg.). Comes in a form that quickly dissovles in the mouth (Risperdal M-Tab)
Quetiapine (Seroquel®)- Also used to treat bipolar disorders; helps with sleep (if used for sleep and not effective at 200 mg, it is not going to be effective in this regard) Dosing 25 mg up to 800 mg maximum. Usually see smaller doses during the day and larger dose at bedtime.
Ziprasidone (Geodon®) - Now approved to treat bipolar disorder. Dosing 20 mg twice daily initially up to 80 mg twice daily. Prolonged QT interval a concern; watch closely with patients who have heart disease; when used with other drugs that prolong QT interval potentially life-threatening.
Partial dopamine agonists:
Aripiprazole (Abilify) - Newest atypical antipsychotic; dosing 5 mg up to maximum of 30 mg has been used. Mechanism of action is thought to reduce susceptibility to metabolic symptoms seen in some other atypical antipsychotics.
Symbyax - (combination of olanzapine and fluoxetine used in the treatment of bipolar depression.)

Tetrabenazine (Nitoman® in Canada and Xenazine® in New Zealand and some parts of Europe) is similar in function to antipsychotic drugs, though isn't generally considered an antipsychotic itself. This is likely due to its main usefulness being the treatment of hyperkinetic movement disorders such as Huntington's Disease and Tourette's Syndrome, rather than for conditions such as schizophrenia. Also, rather than having the potential to cause tardive dyskinesia that most antipsychotics have, tetrabenazine can actually be an effective treatment for the condition.
The typical antipsychotic drugs are now out of patent meaning any pharmaceutical company is legally allowed to produce cheap generic versions of these medications. Whilst this makes them a great deal cheaper than the atypical drugs which are still in patent, atypical drugs are preferred as a first line treatment due to the fact that they are believed to have fewer side effects and seem to have additional benefits for the 'negative symptoms' of schizophrenia, a typical condition for which they might be prescribed. A recent multi-site, NIMH study published in 2005 comparing the atypicals to perphenazine found no greater efficacy for the atypicals, which had a side effect profile that was equal to or worse than the older drug.

Anne stands up and walks back over to the mirror. After a short glimpse she reaches up and pulls the mirror open.  There before her, in neat rows, the little bottles stare back at her.

"Well, at least they don't speak to me anymore.  Not like "do-do" over there"

She reaches for three of them, pours out the "recommended dosage", and swallows them with time-honored practice.

"Damn pills, damn bottles, damn parrott!!!"

She slams the medicine cabinet closed.  It, in return, bounces back open.

Rolling her eye, she drops back down on the bed.

Here we have the Camboro, Crimson and Tiger Heart Cartels in their first engagement.

Notice that the Crimson Cartel has found the first treasure!!!

However, the Camboro Cartel has found the "special" weapon

Notice however that we have the most dashing of the swordsmen, while Mutt remains
a useful, if eccentricly garbed, target decoy.

Plus we've got the hook and the spyglass.

Obviously a bonus for the cool factor.

Every member of the Tigerheart cartel signs a waiver that essentially states they won't use a ship
with any transporters . Really tbombs don't add alot to their mission profile (of dying to keep me alive)
and tbombs are expensive.
Far better for them to use their prestige to purchase a new ship as needed.
