I think Sethan and his Beard would make a good Kirk.

The guy who played the Captain of Serenity would be okay too.

That would be Nathan Fillion, and, now that you mention it, he would make a great Captain Kirk.

If the next Trek movie is to feature a young Kirk, some other casting decisions should be considered:

1.  Who would play young Gary Mitchell?

2.  Who would play young Carol Marcus?

Just some thoughts...

We're looking too deep...too old.  Remember academy kids...late teens early twenties.  AFAIK no one that has been discussed fits that description.  Who ever plays Kirk, Spock, Mitchell, Marcus, Finnigan.  Is going to probably be someone we've never seen before, or we have seen them, but as a child actor years ago.

There is still plenty of other people that older actors can play.  Bob Wesley?  Garth of Izar?  Nogura?  Pike?  April?

Garth of Izar?

A show based on Garth would be better.  After all Garth of Izar was Kirks hero, the man whose career Kirk modelled himself on.

Ewan McGregor...except he'd have to kill his accent.

Rosario Dawson as Uhura?

Jude Law as Spock?

Though he might do a nice McCoy too, but that accent thing again could get in the way.

Matt Damon maybe as Chekov...

Here's another thought, alternate for Kirk could be

Pierce Brosnan

I'm thinking of a possible remake of the original.

I'm thinking Dennis Leary as McCoy, Matthew McConahey (sp?!?) as Kirk, Conan O'Brien as Scotty, Beyonce Knowles as Uhura, and Vince Vaughn as Spock.

Think about it.  The best movies had lots of humor, and I think this cast would *rock*.

...as well as pull in an audience like no other :D

AND having Beyonce would make for damn sure the old uniform style is used ;D
