I'm hoping that they are tired of all two things.  The anti-trust suits over embedding programs in the OS and the problems caused by things that don't belong in the OS being dropped in for marketing reasons.  If that is the truth then MS will be separating out other programs as well as the reported separation of Windows and IE.

Actually, I don't think Gates is too bad.  The one I hate is Steve Ballmer.

Just a question for you.  How well would  your favourite antipersonnel weapon work if all the other antipersonnel weapons were integrated into the same package?  Just how strong would the minion need to be to actually use the combined "weapon"?  How easy would it be to redesign the pistol element if the anti-tank weapon used some of the same components and had to remain functional?

Thats where Windows has been going since Microsoft "integrated" DOS and Windows in Win95 to bypass anti-trust laws.  You don't think that Windows Vista wants 2gb of ram and a dual core CPU because it is better performing do you?

Thankfully when it comes to genocide, there are plenty of weapons suppliers out there, so I'm not stuck with one particular company.

Strange, that when combat is your goal you have a 1.001 different suppliers, but when it comes to computing, it's microsoft.

Ah well.

The biggest businesses should just go out and buy Macs just to piss off Microsoft.

That would teach them to go 5 years between OSes.

Got get yourself a Macbook Pro or wait for the Intel Core 2 Duo to debute in the Mac desktop line.
If ya gots to have MS running on your hardware, use Apple's Boot Camp to boot into it.

Use a mac? Bah! Get a job you hippie!

Get a Macbook, they come in black like the rest of you clones and it'll run Windows so you can fit in with the rest of your minions.

Agreed. The black MacBook, booted into WinXP, radiating blue from the BSofDeath, should cast a sufficiently evil pale upon you: striking fear and loathing into even your most forsaken minions ;-)

Symantec is seeking to stop "further development, sale or distribution of he 'Vista' and 'Longhorn' versions of the Windows client and server operating systems," among other injunctions.

Quote
Symantec alleges that "Microsoft has deliberately and surreptitiously misappropriated Symantec's valuable data-storage technologies, misled and thereby convinced the United States government to issue patents to Microsoft based on technologies invented by Symantec, attempted unsuccessfully to persuade Symantec to forgive Microsoft' s misdeeds under the guise of expanding a business relationship, and ultimately built portions of its next generation operating system on this house of cards."

Quote
"We worked hard to try to resolve these issues with Symantec, but were not able to reach an agreement. We believe the facts will show that Microsoft's actions were proper and are fully consistent with the contract between Veritas and Microsoft," Microsoft said.

"These claims are unfounded because Microsoft actually purchased intellectual property rights for all relevant technologies from Veritas in 2004," the company said.

The Symantec suit sounds more like the SCO v Linux case.  Who knows, there might be something to it but I think Symantec is more worried about Vista having its own firewall and Anti-virus built it.

As for Vista itself, as a Windows user I could care less about it but as a parent I can't wait for it.  The parental controls are going to make oversight of the little ones much easier.

If I want to run windows, I'll use PC hardware =P Besides Mac's are overpriced.

Possibly so but given that the SCO suit would be over now if not for the money paid by Microsoft for a license they seem to have no need for and from the Baystar investment encouraged by Microsoft I can't feel to sorry for Microsoft.

I agree, but with Symantec's business practices both toward their customers and toward other businesses I don't feel sorry for Symantec either.
