Econ War: The best laid plans of Admins and Men
« on: May 03, 2006, 01:12:27 pm »
Have we ever had a major server that didn't have its start date slip?  Use this thread to keep up with all the slippage of Econ War.

Econonomic War is Currently set to begin on Sunday, May 7th, at 6PM EST.[/b]

Hopefully 6PM EST is the right time to allow US, Canadian, and UK citizens to all get in on the opening salvos.  (German too, if Fraekhal (sp?) wants to join us and keeps late hours.)  My apologies to the Aussies, but if you are an early riser.......

The move from Saturday to Sunday is because I've just learned that my daughter has a ballet recital Saturday night, and that it is "a big thing".

Well, of course it is, Pumpkin.   But why didn't you tell me about this weeks ago, so I could paln around it?

"Uhhh..... I dunno."

Hmph.   Teenagers.

The main reason I started this thread........

One of the Overlords (Race Moderators) has asked that I consider delaying the opening night of the server.  The reason being, we still don't have overlords for several of the cartels.  We also have an overlord who will miss part of the opening week.   (To his credit, he's taken on an assisstant to fill in while he's gone.)

For this campaign to work at its best, we really need at least a couple of people in each cartel.   One of the key features of this campaign is how the cartels combine over time.

I don't normally mind a slip of a week, and I did set my initial date with the provision that I wanted 8 overloards before we started.  However, I cannot ignore the fact that if I delay the server then it is much better for my calendar to delay it for two weeks rather than just one.  How much steam will we lose in two weeks?

I'd appreciate thoughts on this.   I especially appreciate thoughts from those already signed up to play, and of course overlord input counts twice.

Overlord sez... you're delusional if you think you'll get 8.
People don't understand that 'RM"ing can be as complicated as ignoring everyone else and doing what you want.
They see those crazy Klinks make plans, draw maps, decide tot attacks, and wonder how they'll ever keep up.
They don't realize the only reason coaltion wins is cuz of the Lyrans.

Set it back a few days, then go with what you've got. You've got Tigerheart taken care of.
It's not like anyone else is going to win the thing anyway.

Hexx is sorta right. We still haven't heard from major groups like the KHH, and XC on the campaign, well not officially at least.

While it has happened, XC does not normally play D2 as a unit. We let our members exercise their individual preferences.

I just alerted the 9th Fleet to the May 7th start date.  That being said, a little delay wouldn't be so bad.  Maybe that way I wouldn't be the only Korgath schmuck flying.

We're flying for Prime/Tobin Dax

Calling us a 'Major Group' is a bit of a stretch.  Our active core group consists of Duck, Mini, Mrogue and myself.

Now, when Duck starts one of his charm campaigns, he can often pull all kinds of old school boys out of the woodwork (KCW for ex.), but KHH is essentially 4 guys... (if even that)

A friday may 12th evening start would be ok by me, personally speaking, but I wouldn't want to see it get backed up anymore than that as we might lose momentum with those players already on board and likely chomping at the bit. Maybe you should set a poll up and see who wants to go with sunday the 7th, or friday the 12th? Let the players as a group decide, not just the leaders.  At any rate, Prime Industries will be ready for sunday, 6pm eastern.

I am not opposed to starting with the 2 cartels vacant. The other six will fight over their territory and the 2 vacant cartels will get folded into the 2 strongest to go along with the playoff typw matching.
