Arrow Class (Hopper Refit) update 30th april
« on: April 25, 2006, 04:52:52 pm »

Thanks to http://www.freeimagehosting.net - for image hosting

So The Hopper idea came about the forum thanks to Darkseid.. Interesting idea and well brought out.. A fed troop insertion ship.... sounds cool... and im suprised one hasnt been done yet... imagine combining starfleet command with elite force II (dream dreams  :D)

Anyway various designs came up.. some good some bad.. some ugly  ;)

The Arrow class is sleek, she looks fast (and looks like the stability... audacious definately had insperation here..) and she looks roomy.... she has small wings that would give the atmosphere insertion look... and I think is the perfect ship for the JOB.

MP found her so Good job.. (everyone give him a clap ;))

She is perfect not only for the above reasons... but from all the shuttles we have seen so far... this is the most modern looking... and although the concept of the "Hopper" isnt new... this version will be!

So the arrow class needs some adjusting.. (Ref MY MS Paint drawings  :D)    But I also think the Arrow class needs some sort of turret or somthing to protect istself on the ground or give Fire support...   You know when she drops off the troops either fly away or stay and give some support in the way of Artillary or over head fire that sort of thing...

So . . . . please throw your ideas in here... even better draw em in ms paint.. so we can all get a feel for them... I start the build 2nite.. and am happy to shape in a way we all agree would be cannon and cool  ;)

thakns for your time in reading this long post.. whew.  :)

When you posted that with the pic first you almost gave me a you know what. ;) (He's done it ALREADy!?)

Anyway, that grey dorsal circle looks perfect for a 360 degree mount for a "gatling phaser", think 24th century machine gun. You want a rapid fire weapon over brute force. Liek a modern hummer's 50 cal or a APC top mount.

looking underneath ventral, those two grey plates look perfect for two more of those gatling weapons that fire forward to the side 120 degrees to cover the sides during landings.

In the nose take out that yellow deflector and make it a photon mount (you need at least one tube for hardened obstacles/targets like enemy armor.

I hope you liek those suggestions :D

Markyd -- the Arrow will be added to my SFC fleet as soon as you make her available. I HAVE NEVER been more excited about a Fed Model - an awesome design being done by an awesome modeller. I can't wait. YOU DA' MAN!

Looks great MarkyD, I like the deflector, it needs one. But I think it needs the phaser strips and torp tubes under the craft for close ground support. IMHO I think the hopper would be an air superiority craft to support the troops once they drop them, or beam them in. So I would suggest a couple of small strips on the top and one big one on the bottom that maybe streaches around, with the tubes below and to the sides of them.

Just my two cents ;D

Very nice design.  I agree with others that the Deflector should stay.  Besides, its right next to the Bridge/Cockpit, I don't think there would be enough room to put a Photon Launcher there.  Also, I agree with the Gatling Phaser Idea.  To save one cost and production, using older Gatling Phaser Designs might be better then trying to design areas of the ship to handle Phaser Arrays.

Wanted ask, what are thos "yellow" intakes (I guess they are intakes right?) on the bottom of the ship?  If they aren't used for anything critical, could that be an ideal place to put a few Mini-Photon Launchers like what Runabouts use?  Just an idea.

Yeah great ideas guys.... just a reminder the ship shown IS NOT MINE... ITS THE 226,000 THOUSAND poly version were hopefully going to get permisson on as a design for my in game version.. (SEE IMAGES FOR DETAILS)

But the ideas rock fellas... your thinking on the same wavelengths as me exactly... in fact Mangnum357 I have already got rid of the intakes on my rebuild and replaced them with air intake fins... as I already have the torps in... and the air intake fins just look cool.. and if you need a technical reason . . . . .  . . .  yeah urm . . .  . dont ask me.... it just needs em to cool down the watr to flush the toilet or summat...  ;D

MESH IS AT 75% COMPLETE GUYS  ;D woooohooooo

i have an idea for this ship how about adding some ablative armor emitters for when it needs a little extra protection and doing a second mod with ablative armor in full use?

This Image shows the depth.. i was thinking vehicles could dismount from the rear... (ohh er  ;))

as you can see have have completely redesigned the underside.. too make it   1. more roomy  2. more sleek  ;)

OK so Ive started BASIC textures... loads of detail to be added to what you see here... atleast 2 days worth of texturing to go  ;)

Thanks to Imageshack for the fee image hosting http://imageshack.us/

Rear pulse phasers x 2
rear torp launcher x 1
forward torp launcher x 1
forward dual pulse phasers x 2

textures are at an early stage guys.. and the mesh sits in the 3k's mark...

I was thinkink 3 decks..   look at the side profile... mutch more room now to accomodate troops and Federation TANKS.... rofl... what does a feddy tank look like?  :D :D :D

anyway post any changes or comments... we love community projects... and this will go nicely with MP's new carrier..  ;)

Thanks CTF.. although I cannot take credit for the streched look... its part of the original design...

A little bit more texturing done with a few textured glows in... (POINT... all glows show will appear ingame as im texturing them in!!)

So she should appear this cool ingame  ;) this is the 2048 model... for BC.... I will release a 512 version for sfc III

I was playing sfc III today and playing with textures and noticed that anything above 512 doesnt really show...

so thats the reason.  ;)

Had not realized it but was always lookin for a ship along these lines, now I don't have to make one!
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

It looks fine to me, but If you wanted you could remove these windows and place some doors in much like modern helicopters of today.

I wouldn't remove the windows, just add a door outline around them. If ya add doors like that Darkseid all your Marines get sucked into space  ;)

Nice idea about the door, but not for the 26th Century.

The marines would have too far of a drop off the side to hit the ground, hence MarkyD's design of the door under the craft.

Not to mention the ship has transporters that could transport them in to begin with.

Just my honest opinion.

True about the door outline instead of open door, but then again you have to think about force fields.  When a shuttle bay door opens they dont hide in a seperate room, a force field goes up so what you mentioned doesnt happen.  I figure once the ship drops in, (think Apocolyps Now), then a holographic ramp "deploys" the troops get out and then the ships leaves.  Perhaps a variant could be made also to drop in Argo Class Jeeps as well.

That works, but it has to land in order for it to drive out.  It took a few seconds too before it was free.  When your in the middle of a combat situation i'm sure you just want to fly in drop the vehicle and move a long.  Same as dropping off troops.  The Argo shuttle is more of a standard Away mission type.

Actually, I thought there were door underneath the ship too allow a for of Marines/Tactical Force to do this?  I thought there was an underneath Ramp Door that is designed just for what you are talking about?

First - AWESOME SHIP!!!! Second, I like it just the way she is. I can't really see her impulse engines because of the views you've provided but if you think she needs something else in the rear end (so to speak!). Maybe look at beefing up the impulse engines details. That said if you uploaded her right now you'd get a standing ovation!!!

Thanks Fallen_Warrior, your compliments are most welcome. I am usually around, just dont post too often, and rarely build anything.

Redneck.. your help would be greatly appreciated, I no longer have max 5 as I now use max 7, so I cannot convert to .mod  .   When I finish the model, I can have everything done bar that. so If you wouldnt mind finishing her up when Im done.

This model isnt going to be low poly either, a tad over 3k when done  :P sorry

Half way there... The underside isnt built yet, should have that done today. When looking at the original model on sci-fi meshes, it looked rushed in places, so I have tried to blend it all together. stands at 1600 ish, needs bussards, and i'll spend about 700 polys on the underside.

OH BABY!  :o  It has been a while since I seen that!  I still love it as much as I did when I first seen it.  I can clearly see this thing landing on the battlefield ready to release a bunch of MACO/Marines to finish off the Dominion Troops stationed on some Federation world.

I still think she could use a door, or at least an outline to represent a door.  Because even if they can't land and jump down, they could still hover over a building or something and repel down on ropes like SWAT.  Plus a gunner could be there with one of those phaser cannons seen on Argo trucks.  Nice touch with the Torpedo launcher too, didn't notice it the first time I see it.
