UFOP Anubis class Battleship mesh work....
« on: April 23, 2006, 02:59:24 pm »
Ok, here is my progress sofar on the Anubis battleship. This ship is around the size of the Sov, stronger weapons and armor, less speed, shielding and menuverability. She also carries a small wing of fighters, and as you can see from the second pic, she is actually two separate fully functional starships. The saucer sep has it's own warp engines, abiet on the weak side (max speed is warp 5). I was trying to create a ship that would look normal operating without a saucer, and this was the result.

There is still alot of work and tweaking needed, just wanted to show you guys where I was going with this one.

nice clean sharp angles and a more muscular look than the sov. Not bad. You going to try your luck at fed textures now?

Very clean mesh, but I can't help but notice the striking resemblance to DJ Curtis' recent work.  That is just an observation.  Again, as I said, it's a very clean mesh, and she does have certain aspects which set her apart and make her unique.  Reminds me of when I bashed my Connie Class Anubis.  I was half expecting people to roll their eyes because it was another Connie, yet people loved it.  Weird.

Anyway, I can't wait to see updated pictures soon.  :-D

There is a good reason it looks like DJ's ship....his ship inspired this one. I used his idea of a tall spine and crawl over the saucer, and added my touch with nacelles and a different hull configuration.

The reason is this....I stink at Fed designs lol. My best way to go is to look at other designs and get inspirations for my own. Obviously I credit the author of the ship that inspired the design I am releasing ;)

Nothing wrong with using someone else's design to inspire something you're working on.  At some point, I believe everyone does it.  Crediting the inspiration is only just, as you yourself have pointed out.  Me, personally, I couldn't create a new design to save my butt.  I can't wait to see more work done on this baby.

Yea, after all, any design based on canon designs are inspired by someone else's design, right? Hehe.

I also make sure I contact the author of the original if possible to let them know they influenced my design....what I will NOT do is use any part of the model that inspired me. That is going to far...the design has to remain original, and that means I have to build it from scratch.

All the way... ITS IMPOSSIBLE (at least very hard) to come up with original federation designs nowadays... so inspiration is taken from others as it should be... ur doing a bang up job on her sir... please continue  ;)

I'm going to give it a shot, but honestly, looking at other people's textures, I think I have my work set out for me....

Using screen caps for reference is not enough...the problem is the back greebles on the hull. Too much and it looks like the ship has measels. Too little and it looks like it just popped out of a cartoon. It's going to take some work to get the look right.

You're doing fine in Klingon and Romulan textures, Raven.  I'm confident you'll at least do a good job.  If it turns out to look like anything from 1999, hey, at least I have taste for the past. :)

The model itself is good.  I'm not so keen on the Sovereign-class lineage personally (TNG for me was the Ent-D, not the Ent-E), but it's well-done anyhow and I like it.

Thanks...I was trying to go for a ship that would look good in sep mode, and sort of sit somewhere inbetween the Galaxy and the Sovereign...the Galaxy has more crew and storage, more speed, the Sov more efficient engines and menuverability. This one has higher armor/shielding and weapons than both...more of a warship than an explorer.
