All this recent talk about "Hoppers" made me realize we needed a cool AUX ship for them so...........................

The Dominion War led to the conscription of the Shelley Class Carrier.
The Shelley Class is an upgraded Excelsior hull redesigned to hold bulk loads of troops, fighters,ground assault vehicles and the shuttles to ferry them.
The saucer section provides additional cargo and accommodation for the troops, allowing up to 6,000 to be carried and supported for over one month of full combat.
These ships are capable AUXiliary carriers and are operated as such.
The Peregrine Strike Fighters operated from Shelley Class Carriers support those launched by other starships, such as the Akira Strike Cruiser.
The bulk of these hulls were refitted with more reliable Excalibur refit type warp nacelles to improve responce time.
Also, the ships’ cargo holds were removed in favor of improved phaser firepower and more hangar space.
These carriers serve as convoy escorts or courier haulers, transporting Peregrine-class Couriers to distant border worlds.
Effective in its mission, the Shelley class's service in Starfleet has been a very quiet one.
