"Hopper" Request
« on: April 20, 2006, 10:36:36 pm »
Remember in the DS9 episode "...Nor the Battle to the Strong" when a Federation Colony is under constant bombardment from Klingon mortors?  In the episode when Jake comes across that wounded Marine, the Marine mentions somthing about a "Hopper" and if his men had gotton to it safely.  I assume a Hopper is somthing like a troop transport much like a Helicopter of today.  Anybody ever think of what a Federation Helicopter Gunship/Dropship would look like?  It would be neat to see what some people come up with.

I think it would look like the Argo shuttle. If it's big enough to hold a Fed Hummer it would be perfect for Marines plus it has a remote control.

im thinking more of an extended runabout converted for atmospheric flight, basically thrusters only to be deployed from low orbit :)
Alternate universe:  Khan was banished for preserving the peace. The Genesis device was really a super weapon and kirk had planned to use it on the klingons. Chekov found the Botany Bay and khan hijakced and killed the evil reliant crew in an effort to destroy the genesis device.    Ahh i love it :D The alternate universe rocks.

Cool design but judging by the size of the rear docking ring it's rather small.

Check out this site.

NICE - I like it.  Multi-purpose, could see it as a Fed PF in a modified campaign - least the tactical variants.  I like too that there's a "family" version.  Was wondering what the Winnebago's of the 2300's would look like  ;D

I like that...exactly what is needed, a multi-function vehicle that can be mass produced. Great find IM.

I like this one.  It's nose is a little too 747 for me though.  It should look more like a helicopter.  Kinda like the Pelican on Halo, or those Dropships in Aliens.

Well in ST V they used Type 5 shuttlecraft for the assault on the Intergalactic Peace Planet. I still think the Argo shuttle is the best bet because if it's large enough to hold a Fed Hummer is more then adequite to hold Marines. But I'm sure someone will come up with something interesting. I for one will keep looking.

I'm not a big fan of Nemesis, so forgive me MP that I prefer Treknology's Hopper over the Argo and it's 2002 Hummer.

Well, the Arrow-class isn't bad for a small personell transport shuttle (used in atmospheric and space flight), but canonically (I believe and according to Memory Alpha) it is like TMP's Air Tram; a craft that is capable of atmospheric flight.

It's anything but little, if you notice in the lower left of the picture is a person for scale  ;)

That is simply put, perfect.

Looks like it could easily hold 36 marines, equipment and a crew of 4 or 5.

Oh that's perfect!  I can picture a couple of those landing on a battlefield with troops storming out of it.

Definitely a very nice model!

Did u just "throw" that together  :o - fantastic.... <edit> ok - I see the credit now in the lower right hand <edit>

Looks like late(r) TMP'ish - though nacelles seem perhaps a touch later.  I'm looking at the blue bars as nacelles, this thing is warp capable, right?  Anyhow, wonderful model and a great shot - would love to see some more of her and hear about her develpment...

I could easily re-HP either Major P's or Mani's aeroshuttle with these stats to make a varient if everyone want's it.

I think it is simple, this is what we want, including the topic creator. He said it was perfect. If you could do this one, it would be best. Who wants another aero shuttle with different hardpoints? Still the same ship.

Very true it's the same ship, but some people may use it in game and may want a stronger weapon arsenal for it I wasn't infering we use it as a 'hopper' just another varient for the game  ;).

That's what I mean, I'm gonna use the above linked stats on an Aero-shuttle varient. I'm hoping someone else can take on the Arrow-Class.  ;)

Yeah I thought that as well, but the front and middle section of the arrow are different, the back though is almost identical. Maybe we can gratuitously beg ya to do both the Arrow and Stability ?

Try stretching it out (giggle), the stability I mean...

Anyway that arrow looks neat, but that scale pic is odd as the window look like a fighter cockpit/bomber so the person is too tiny (or the windows too big!!!) Just an opinion.

I'd use it as a troop transport/Bomber with 6 person crew + payload (or troops)
