Porting a ship from one shiplist.txt to another shiplist ?
« on: April 18, 2006, 08:56:15 am »
Is it this simple or am I missing a step.

I know how to replace an image of a ship.

So lets say I wanted to port over a Doctor Strangelove ship into my SFC OP 4.0 shiplist.  If I use access to copy out the stranglove ship data from RDSL shiplist.txt and paste it into the line for the ship I replaced the model for,... is it good to go?

I am just worried how the program references that particular ship/line of shiplist.txt, if I over write that reference will I screw it up?

Thanks

Greetings Skaren -

Are you using ShipEdit? http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/Utilities/

If so, the easiest thing to do is use the "export" function from the shiplist you want.  It'll create a file with that ships entries and the extension .exp.  Save it somewhere (desktop) then open the shiplist you want to import into and import... browse to the file and there you go....

I use Excel only when I'm doing wholesale changes or deletions.

use excel axnd line copy and insert it into the shiplist in the appropriate race area. I put new ships as the last race entry of that race, but it could go anywhere in that race in any order. Just dont stick a fed ship in the middle of the gorn list or something. Screws it up.

Its very simple. Dont make it complicated.

Man that ship edit program is pretty cool,.. it is just the thing I need to beat Demonfly by unfairly modding my WE into the Super WE.

 ::)

Just kidding, it does surprise me now to know how easy it is to mod ships.  I have played in GSA and seen,.. your shiplist does not match so and soo's.   Christ now I will be worried some dude has souped up his favorite ship to kick my ass.

What is funny is no one has ever questioned that when I played.  Before I learned about the folder copy for multiple games I always had different ship lists than folks I was playing,...  Dfly in particular.

Either they were trusting or they were modding   :)

If you can't win fairly why bother playing.

For example I know that Rat Bastard DemonFly is going to beat me again when we meet this Thursday at 8:00 GSA if anyone is interested in joining.  I sure could use the help.  My lone WE against his FED CA is a tough fight, especially with him flying it !!

LoL you are  a funny Romulan.   I believe you will find that if your shiplist is showing variations with nearly everyone you fly against, it is your shiplist that is out.   Nearly all(98%) of my opponents have the same shiplist with no variations.  Those that know me would know I would never fly a modded ship unless all players had it.  That does not go to say that I won't fly vs someone with a different list as that does happen.  Even if only 1 ship in the whole list is different, it shows, so no sweat.  I volunteer to send you the 4.0 I use, which matches nearly everyone.  I can send it via GSA, just be warned it is a big file, and  I have found those guys who use the one without the models often have variances.  I believe the Models file shiplist vs the nomodels file shiplist has a variation somewhere.

I will look into the shiplists and see if we can find something more balanced in the rom favor.  BTW, Feds are almost never flown by me, so dont judge Fed pilots by my skills as most Fed pilots fly them  much better than I do.  I do hope that more members of your group try out GSA now and again.  I would gladly fly with them and perhaps they can teach me as much as I may be able to teach them, if there is anything I can teach them.

I hope you mean 8 EST .  either way I will be on way before and way after that time, like I usually am

skaren, if you're using custom models that dont point to the same name as the old model. i.e. u're I-Ca model is a star destroyer, if you change the model pointer and not the model name, you'll get an error. I know you've been looking at different shiplists and models, so you might've accidentally edited a line or something
