damn i hate that too markyd. wish there was a way i could help. the only thing i can think might help some is try a repair install of XP. it saves ur data and only replaces the window files it might help.  i hope that helps some.

Also go to microsoft and search knowledge base...should be a manual removal option for most of 'em.

If this happened just recently, then you could see if there is a recent restore point for XP, and 'roll back' XP to that point before you started getting the new program.

If you were on a regular computer, I'd suggest taking the hard drive out, slapping in another to boot from temporarily, and hook your main drive as a slave, locate all your files and burn them to disc, then reformat the sucker, but since you're on a laptop, I have no ideas.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

trendmicro.com can usualy extract viruses if u can get it on the net using network support in safe mode. Otherwise slave it then scan it with adaware and spybot and all the free virus crap ya can get your hands on including trend micro.

My suggestion....use one of your output ports to connect to another computer, and pull your files across the mini-network.

You could try using BartPe.  Just create a BartPe CD and boot from it.  Then you should be able to navigate though your files just fine.

Well on my Win 2003 Server Enterprise platform I use NOD_32 in my opinion one of the best antivirus systems for Win32 platforms ever made (at least one programming invention for this platforms :P) :D

If you can identify the infection, http://www.sarc.com has lots of effective removal tools and instructions, though dealing with virus aliases can be a real pain. For some reason all the AV companies insist on calling the same thing by different names.

Also, for screen captures (if I read the original post right), all you need is the CTRL-PRINTSCRN key combo, then paste into any image editing application you like. Don't know why anyone would use anything else. Unless you're trying to make a video...
