MySQL Debug Server Test Friday Apr. 7 - 8 PM EST
« on: April 06, 2006, 11:13:45 am »
As usual, stock files:

In case yours have gone astray:

http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/backup_files/shiplist.zip
http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/backup_files/ftrlist.zip
http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/backup_files/Scripts.zip

Or an installer if needed:
http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/backup_files/StockOP.exe
(shiplist, fighterlist, model.siz, missions, shipnames and strings - no backup, no uninstaller - 1.46 MB download)

Things to do:
- ALT-F4 from mission and from the map
- login, logout, and login again cycles
- Pile up in a hex to stress the mission matching.
- Throw in one or two forfeits (but ony a few in total for the test overall are needed)
- Test moving rapidly as per MuadDib's observations on The Forge

Well if I was free,.. I am sure I could screw it up somehow.

Funny story for you, first time I got onto KCW I was pretty excited as it was the first time on any Dyna server.  PS this was like about 2 weeks before it ended.

So poof I land in some hex and kinda take a look around.  I see that someone had a battle in hex so and so.  So I figure I will go over there and check out the scene.  I start moving across the map and these pesky battle options come up.  Now being excited to get to where I was going,.. I say the heck with this I am just going to forfeit, which I did.  Now I move another hex and so on,.. each time forfeiting cause I wanted to get to so and so hex.

I actually got a rhythm down where as I moved I could quickly forfeit with a fast combo type movement.  I quickly marched across the map quite proud of how I had developed the " Fast Forfeit Rhythm"

I think it was Krim who later informed me that Forfeits were bad,..  I kinda sunk real low in my computer/command chair and didn't say much back about the whole thing.   I later wondered if someone looked over a log and wondered who the crack pot Skaren was.

Well that about sums up my first Dyna experience      :P

I noticed the manual for sale about how to play Dyna games,.. but is there a free one anywhere   ?

Lol... funny story... I have the forfeit penalty set to 1000 PP on The Forge and the UAW server to discourage that. It does put a nasty load on the server and is suspect for causing stability issues.

No free manual that I know of, just the contents of this forum. There are a few other strategy guides scattered about as well I think. As I recall Reptor's general OP manual is quite reasonably priced though.

Grrr....really enjoyed last time...unfortunately da boyz (Perfunctory this Band) have a gig booked then and my technical services are needed on the mixing board....

Wish it was a different choice than:

Listening/Mixing/Participating in Live Music (predominately good ole Grateful Dead which is bliss incarnate to this deadhead although some interesting covers have come out in the last couple years sans rehersal of course to formally reherse would be counter-perfunctory, though it happens every 2 to 3 years)

OR

Helping my longtime friends and comrades in arms isolate bugs in a game that I covet and even beta'd for only a mere hour or so..

Tough choice- but ANY chance to listen to grateful dead music performed live (the songs themselves are  not neccessarilly the most important factor, they are "improvised" as they performed and no two renditions are quite the same, each time they get up and play is a unique entity and can not be duplicated even if they individuals themselves tried---drove the recording enginner batty--doing multiple takes cause each time they went through their originals it was different sounding -- he also had never ever mic'd a pair of drumkits at the same time..ancient history now though)

I wish I could I really do...I can take comfort in the fact that there will be additional testing that will need bodies.

If you really want to hear a good show I have 2 this PM

7-20-94 Deer Creek (I was there and a very good time was had by all)
http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=14404

6-20-73 RFK Stadium (if only I was there)
http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=12091&from=browsePopular

Shows stream from the link to the left...the 3 set of the second link has a couple allman brothers sitting in and merle saunders tickling the ivory...hope these 2 examples might illuminate those in the dark as to the real reason people kept following them around...shows like the above would happen on a semi regular basis...we did play at a bar that had a wireless and my buddy had a laptop and we surfed the net and posted a couple 20 secs of audio hot off the board, but that place is closed now otherwise I could borrow my buddies laptop and do both!!!

Bring some of that RAIDTM along to help kill some bugs! ;)

I learned today that if you drink enough rye you can kill bugs with your breath... holy Naked Lunch batman!  :o  So have a few drinks and come breathe on the server!  ;D

Seriously though, I just thought of something else to try on tonight's test: late mission reports. Stay at the mission debriefing screen an inordinate amount of time, long after others have reported the mission and left the hex, I have long suspected that this can cause issues.

Sorry for a temp hijack of the thread Bonk--

...We do tape each and every show....some are dreadful recordings (due to the inability to descern lvls w/ headsets while da boyz are cranking 100db ... i kid u not...at some 20-30 feet from the stage,  pressure has been measured 100db depending on the room size and materials)

As soon as I get motivated I will have "refurbished" the spouses AMD Thunderbird powered box, throw 2003 on then dns config etc and then host PTB content (as well as my other hobbies and Family stuffs I have enough min bandwidth) This will include posting bytes in the evil mp3 format (lossy compression is corruption personified worse then the FEDERATION!!!) and you can get a taste of what Perfunctory does.

I have lobbied to get will to invest in a computer based multi track solution rather than the 4 tracks standalone Hardrive Based recorder currently in use. He just gives me that blank look....like I am nuts or something.  Anyhow .... all good things in all good times....

btw any Feedback: Plus or Minus from any one who got curious and streamed a little dead to their ears???

Once the Webserver is active....I will build a small box just to run the server kit and FINALLY, join the community by hosting a OP DV server...preferably one using sql w/ the web as the front end complete with all the campaign bells and whistles etc....

No one was there when I logged on a little while ago, so I committed a few forfeits and ran a mission.

Me too. I hung out from 8-9 EST, did about the same. Did not trigger the error we've been looking for, not sure if this is a good sign or not. Might have to repeat the test when more people can show up. I'll leave it up another 1/2 hr or so to see if I catch anything. Thanks for loggin in Dax.
