OT: My Masters degree - sticky please! (at least till June)
« on: April 03, 2006, 12:36:08 pm »
As you may propably not know this summer I am going to graduate my Masters degree. To achieve this I must write a big essay or something closely related to it.

As the matter of fact I've chosen a topic very but very closely related to the Community. Due to the fact I need your help in gathering information for me about some aspects of SFC and BC Communities.

I would like to learn:

- e@economy aspects of the Community (how the money and in what ways is propelling the SFC Community - Pay Pal, Donations etc.)
- structures, ranks and lists of all Community projects, achievements as well as currently running WWW sites.
- people who are responsible for maintaining the WWW micro societies

My work of putting this all together will be dedicated to the memory of SFC Community.

Thank you for your attention. :)

I would PM Frey (site owner) and move this post to the SFC General  area.

I will compile some of this information for you soon. Most of it can be gleaned by reading the forums here and looking at the links pages.

For now:

Quote
- e@economy aspects of the Community (how the money and in what ways is propelling the SFC Community - Pay Pal, Donations etc.)

Paypal and snail mail - pretty much all donations go to server hardware and facilities. As well as generous donations of hosting. (bandwidth is very expensive to pay for)

See this thread: http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163364079.0.html
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163360158.0.html (do not reveal accounts and passwords publicly)
There is a thread somewhere that outlines our hardware, though I cant find it right now and it is out of date anyway...

- structures, ranks and lists of all Community projects, achievements as well as currently running WWW sites.

Sites:
(check the Links section on our front page: http://www.dynaverse.net/)
Offhand:
http://www.dynaverse.net/ (of course)
http://sfc2.net/
http://www.battleclinic.com/
http://www.xenocorp.net/
http://www.cugs.org/
http://9thfleet.com/
www.strategyplanet.com/sfc/
http://www.nightsoft.net/
there's more but those are the ones that come to mind for SFC...

Projects:
OP serverkit source project (ongoing MySQL server stability tests and code revisions)
SFC Direct (not public yet ;))
The Omniverse
D.Net Updated OP Manual Project
Cracking the sprites file
The now defunct Dynaverse Improvement Project (DIP)
(I know I'm missing some here...)

Structures and ranks:
Site Owners, Site Designers, Site Admins, Site Moderators
Fleet commanders, Fleet officers... (e.g. Xenocorp, 9th Fleet) those guys will have more on fleet structure)

These replies are far from complete and only cover what immediately came to mind, you can find all this information by digging around on this site and some google searches. Also have a look at all the sites linked on the sites linked above.

If you have any specific questions, just ask and we'll do our best to get some answers for you.

Sounds like an interesting project. What's the degree in?
