FruyMk2 WIP
« on: March 29, 2006, 07:41:26 am »
i dug up my USS Fury a little while ago and said to myself this looks like crap LOL so i decided to do a completely new mesh instead of the original kitbash idea. i also incorporated a few changes i felt the Fury needed like an raised bridge, a couple of shuttle bays, and a deflector dish. i have also decided to create this ship to have a variable nacell design. let me know what you all think

G'Kar: Curious. Until now, I hadn't known it was a crime.

Very interesting design for a TMP era ship.  Question, isn't this design based on an actual AMT model somebody scratched built, or am I confused?  Is this a totally original ship?

Me thinks we're talkin' fast attack craft here.   ;)

You are correct Magnum it is loosely based off of that particular plastic model http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163347029.msg1122453003.html#msg1122453003
i originally did a kitbash of it about a year ago but was never truly happy with it so i created this all new mesh with a few refinements to the design like the raised bridge section, shuttle bays, and the variable nacelles.

Me thinks we're talkin' fast attack craft here.   ;)

yep we are looking like a fast attack/border patrol craft minimal crew (maybe 80-90) fairly heavily armed (4 torps 2 forward 2 aft 10 phasers 6 above 4 below the main hull)

I actually prefer the one with the nacelles in the upright position, under the saucer section.

once the texturing is complete i will be releasing both versions in one package so you can choose which one you like better.

Hey MP i have a favor to ask i know you are good at comming up with histories for ships would you care to create a history for my Fury?

Ask and you shall recieve my friend................

OUTALANCE SHIPYARDS
Fury Class Light Cruiser

Owner : United Federation of Planets
Class : Capital Ship
Availability : Limited Deployment
In Service : 2292
Out of Service : 2341
----------------
During the 2290's, Starfleet was in dire need of new starship hulls.
The aging Constitution-class Cruisers were nearing the end of their useful lives while production of the new Excelsior Heavy Cruiser remained too low to fill the niche left by them in the field.
Starfleet put out several requests for proposals among the leading shipyards, and several bids were accepted to help and fill the gap, as the production was viewed as nothing more than a stop-gap initiative.
One of the first classes to go from the drawing board to the fleet yards was the Fury Light Cruiser.
Using design elements taken from the successful Excelsior, the Fury filled the role of a light patrol cruiser, able to go on extended cruises on the edge of Federation territories.
It was well armed and highly manueverable.
It did not take long, however, for the true troubles of the design to come to light.
The U.S.S. Fury on her shakedown cruise encountered several structural integrity field problems, including one accident in which four crewmen were killed when the field in their section 'hiccuped.'
Review of the accident found the cause of the accident to be due to a faulty plasma coupling which destabilized due to the variable geometry system.
The entire project was re-evaluated at that point with all active ships being recalled and all new construction halted.
The Starfleet admiralty was dumbfounded.
Out of the half a dozen similar design projects that had been contracted out similarly bizarre production or service problems were being encountered.
At first they raised the question of possible industrial espionage or some form of sabotage, but this could never be proved.
The few Fury Light Cruisers that were still under construction were finished, and the small cadre were entered back into service once Starfleet engineers had certified that all known design flaws had been corrected.
From 2300-2341 the ships served in their intended role as a light cruiser. Most of the surviving ships were phased out of active service by the fall of 2341, with two of them reserved for Starfleet Academy use and another for local sector defense on the far side of the Federation.
The rest were either mothballed or scrapped, including the U.S.S. Fury herself.
One of the Fury Light Cruisers assigned to Starfleet Academy was later seized by Admiral Hanson for use as part of the armada to counter the first Borg incursion into Federation space.
This ship was lost with all hands at Wolf 359.
Of the other two Fury's, one remains in Academy service while the other broke down in the mid 2350's and was relocated to the Qualor II surplus depot.
