SFC: F&E Rule debate #5
« on: March 20, 2006, 07:05:43 am »
Ship Production

F&E has a production schedule.

Do we want to stick with that?

Or move to a more flexible system where the players can decide what is built?

I am leaning towards the more open system allowing X amount of points per empire (keeping the F&E ratio between empires) and using the F&E ship costs (but lowering carrier prices see SFC: F&E Rule debate #4)

Also, shipyards.... I want to drop the bases can make FF's & such and deal just with shipyards.

This means that shipyards are to be built (or rebuilt if destroyed) and ship making capabilities can be damaged.

In addition, shipyard sizes will be made, allowing for only certain sized ships to be made at each location.

Last is refit and repair.

All upgrades & repairs should require a lay over at a shipyard or base. (I think we would agree on that)

But what amount of time should be allocated for such things?

1 turn for all of them?

1 turn for minor refits and 2 turns for major refits?

How should we define minor and major refits?

How long for major repairs?

How about conversions? (ex. F-DNL to F-DVL)

Give me some input.....

the thing the F&E schedule has going for it is that it provides a stock schedule of vanilla line ships (which should make up the bulk of all production) and clear cut rules on how many substitutions you can make for those (x amount of D5D's in place of a D5 per year)

Yes it does.

Scaled down F&E schedule with a scaled down economy.

If we scale it right, we can allow the player to still make some choices while keeping the overall fleet mix realistic.
