Running D3 Server Need some Help
« on: October 28, 2005, 02:52:11 pm »
There are about 10 of us here at my company who want to use the company LAN to play SFC3.  Our admin department said it was okay and even loaded the server software for us.  The problem is that we can't get our workstations to see the server.  I am guessing that the D3 server actually has to connect to an Access Server, a.k.a. GameSpy, and so do our workstations.  Then we can see the D3 server, connect to it and have fun. The problem is that our LAN admin people will NOT allow that to happen.

So, this begs the question, or questions: Is there a way for our client SFC 3 machines to connect directly to the D3 server on our LAN?  Or is there an access server we can down load and run on our LAN?  Or is there an interface control document (ICD) that defines these connections so that we can write our own access server?

We would really like to play this thing on our own LAN and keep the server running.  We have people working here 18 hours a day, several people on each shift want to play.  Anyway, we are open for suggestions.

Thanks,

I will get Cozbo and Chuck for you or Ender.

I'm new to the SFC3 community but I'm highly interested in what became of Ted Bonnell's original question.

Does anyone have anything useful to me for creating a multiplayer campaign on my local network? I've looked just about everywhere and am unable to find much on the subject of creating one's own access server. Thanks in advance,

The nut of it is reproduced from one of the old Taldren forums in this thread:

http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163136638.0.html

(for the D2 but the same principles apply)

Also see this post:

http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163351235.msg1122508277.html#msg1122508277

(again, replace the SFC3 activision directory servers for the dynaverse.net D2 directory servers)
