Could Someone Build Me This Ship, Please? - One
« on: March 11, 2006, 04:46:14 pm »
Despite MP's data in a different thread (thanks, MP), I've been unable to track down the ships I'd like, so I'm putting out the call again for anyone who has these ships or who would build them for me. Now, as you look at the schematics, I know you'll think, "there's one already like that", or "why don't you just use this one." Forgive me for being a perfectionist, but these are the ones I want, exactly as they are. Everyone loves doing minor variations on Constitutions, so please humour me. *smile*

I would like someone to build me this ship:

Youngblood-class Heavy Carrier (CVL+):

Let me know here if you can do this, and if you have WIPs feel free to post them here. I am most eager to see any you might make.

Yes, this is no FASA piece of crap kitbash. This was designed in 1995 by Mark Wilson for the 'Galactic Engineers Concordance', along with two other classes, the Jenshahn and the Chosin. He obviously put a lot of thought into it as he came up with the construction history and reasons for building them in the first place.

I really hope someone builds this ship, as I've been after her for a while.

It seemes that no one will, though. *sigh* I've posted this ship 3 times in the last couple of months and several times many months earlier in the same hope, and even people who normally build ships just on their own whim seem to have no interest in her.

Have you posted those other 2? and does this guy just design or does he bash from ertl kits like inpayne or some of the others?

Starforce2, as far as I'm aware Mark Wilson only designs. He drew up these plans on paper (or a CAD program), and I've not heard of a plastic or CG model of this.

I'll post the other two shuttlecarrier models if I get a response on this one as they are variations on this theme. This is the most advanced of the three, the Jenshahn being an earlier (though still TMP-Era) ship with a more TOS/Tikopai-style bridge superstructure and saucer underside.

Please note that the torpedo tubes are located below the unusual navigational deflector.

Bump for Kinghippo.

King, I'd love to see this ship in my game, as well as a few others which I'll bump for you.

Hi, I just thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention again. Would anyone be interested in building this ship? Alas, I am but a poor, inexperienced kitbasher with no idea how to build a model from the keel up.

MP, these are just Khaliban's saucer textures, correct?  If so, can have a set of registries done up in about 10 minutes after knowing for sure.. :)

Correct, GAFY's Retextures of them. Grabbed the ships from Mackies site. The Saucer, Nacelles,Pylons and Impulse sections are from the FCA retextured, The Sec hull is a combo of the FDN retexture and the FDNh retextures, and I forget which FDN I grabbed the neck from.

Not being able to build this ship from scratch and get the proper (if bizarre) navigational deflector on the front end, and not being able (yet!) to carve out the holes in the side of the hull for the secondary shuttlebays, as well as being unable to create a brand new impulse deck, and all the other things too, I had hoped someone would build this anew, like Sandman is doing for that Santee-class escort carrier.

However, seeing the ease at which MP bashed together his Youngblood, I thought I'd give it a go too. All due respect & credit to MP, especially having it bashed together inside an hour (!), I wanted something a little bit closer to the schematic. Thanks to MP for showing that if could actually be kitbashed to a fair approximation!

So, here's my attempt. Feel free to give an in-depth critique, but I can't help but feel proud of her, even more so than my Zodiac class (which some of you may remember). This ship involved a far higher amount of rebuilding and manipulation of vertices and stuff for new(ish) hull pieces. I'm the first to admit she needs a hell of a lot more work to make her "real", as well as some polish to give her a proper registry. Maybe USS Kuznetsov NCC-2266, from the source material. I'll reinstall Photoshop and work on that later.

This model was created from Atrahasis' kitbash of Pneumonic81's Enterprise-A model and textures, with a new secondary hull and textures for that made by Atrahasis, and the saucer was retextured by GotAFarmYet?/Khaliban. The USS Sovereign NCC-2505 registry is a retexture my me, Scottish Andy. Built time was 6 hours.

I give you: USS Kuznetsov NCC-2266!

Actually the lower hull was built by Atrahasis, the rest by P81. The textures are all bashed by me and depending on the saucer version you used either mine or Khalibans. Pre2001 it would be Khalibans, in 2003 or 2004 I redid the saucers to look as close to his as I could match and started using those. The ones you show in the pictures above look like 2001 vintage.

Either way keep going you seem to be getting the ideas on how to kitbash!
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

Aye GAFY, I cut and pasted and paraphrased from the readme that came with Atra's Belknap-class cruiser. As stated in the "credits" section of my post:

Thanks for the compliment. If I keep going at this rate, I may actually learn how to build! :) Now all I need to do is figure out how to use LithUnwrap...

I had a look for tutorials on Dyna but didn't find any. Does anyone have a beginner's guide for LithUnwrap?

MP, that's the thing. I actually got mad at seeing you put the shuttlebay above the nav deflector and said to myself, "Right, let's try this myself!" Childish, huh? :D

So, the thing is: these ships don't have a forward shuttlebay like the TOS Coronado and TMP Orisksany has. Look at the schematic again. That weird shape at the front of the secondary hull is the ship's Nav Deflector only. It's why the torp launchers are below the secondary hull instead of in their usual place. I have the actual Mark A. Wilson (c) 1995 'Federation Shuttlecarrier Comparison Pack' on paper that these ships are from (I got it from an S T convention), and it gives a lot of background data. It confirms there is no forward shuttlebay, only the main rear, and smaller port/starboard doors.

Which makes perfect sense when you look at it from an engineering viewpoint. These carrier types can have the same linear intermix shafts as the TMP Enterprise, reaching down behind the nav deflector. The secondary hull is basically the Enterprise's huge cargobay as seen in TMP converted to vehicle hangers. That's a lot of space, and the FSCP says they have a capacity of 35+ medium-sized shuttles.

Of course, putting this ship together made me realise that you still can't get a frigging warp sled inside the ship... unless you widen the p/s doors by at least 25% and slide in the sled alone, detaching the shuttle. I didn't really get just how damn big that sled is until then.

Hi Scottish Andy
I have the same plans got them from Mark Wilson Years ago. ;D I always thought that the fighters aboard would be
the modular Killer bee and Yellow Jackets. Since Mark's work showed alot of Ships of the Starfleet influence. I do agree
with regards to front being a very strange deflector and its too bad that Mark never supplied front or aft views of the
various carriers as well as cross-sections.  :(
Mp yours would make a nice varient class to the Coronado and Oriskany Classes  ;D

I just want to give a HUGE nod to MP & Scottish Andy for taking a crack at this. There are precious few good shuttle carrier designs for the game, and both of these ships will have a place in my fleet. I hope you guys will release your work on completion.

Scottish Andy when I look at that schematic, I do see a shuttlebay above the deflector, I do agree it could have an Oriskany heritage, but to me it's plain as day that's a shuttlebay  :)

Um, MP, did you miss this bit?

I have the actual plans myself. The designer of the ship states that there is no forward shuttlebay, and that bit at the front is a oddly-shaped navigational deflector.

Bernard & Chrystoff, thanks for your kind words, they are much appreciated. :)
I've also completed a Jenshahn-class earlier TMP carrier based off of Atrahasis' Tikopai kitbash of Pneumonic81's Enterprise-A model and textures, with some new parts and textures made by Atrahasis. I did that first, was happy with it, then did my Youngblood and used what I'd learned there to go back and improve the accuracy of that model. I'm currently working on the Chosin class, again based off of Atrahasis' Belknap rebuilding of Pneumonic81's Enterprise-A model and textures, with a new secondary hull and textures for that made by Atrahasis.
