UAW Download Troubles.
« on: March 06, 2006, 12:32:42 pm »
I'm having problems downloading the big 600 MB UAW download.  I''ve tried it twice from one link and, upon installing, had the install stop at 99% both times.  I've also tried to get the .RAR version and had it time out on me.  Is there a better link, or just a link to the actual place this file is kept?  I want to try UAW, but I'm getting a little frustrated with downloading 600 MB over and over again.

The Dynaverse.Net webserver is down for nightly maintenance every morning at 4 AM CST for 6 minutes. If your download time will cross over that time period it will time out.

So to download it from http://www.dynaverse.net/downloads/sfc2_op/Mods/UAW-OP.rar make sure that it is well in advance of 4 AM CST. I'd suggest starting it in the morning to ensure that your download is not interrupted by the nightly maintenance.

The other thing to try is downloading it over FTP (info here):
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163360158.0.html

Or better yet, use: Star Downloader Free - which will allow you to pause downloads and resume interrupted downloads. Its a dandy little program, I just used it to download FreeBSD6 disk 1 (550MB) over 31.2Kbps dial-up (in multiple sessions over about 4 days). I do not use its browser integration as it can just get in the way (as it does not work with indirectly linked scripted downloads), but rather I just enter downloads in the program directly with the "Add" button.

Coolness, Bonk.  I'm on cable so speed isn't really an issue.  The links you gave should do the trick.  I look forward to trying this little beauty out.

OK, obviously these links don't work either.  I started at 1 p.m., EST today, so the 4 a.m service period is not the issue.  The download froze at 66%.  When I shut it down and tried to start again the download started right back from where I'd cancelled it, at 66%.  Once it finished I tried to install.  As it had the last 3 times I tried to install the install hangs up at 99% and goes no further.  Now, I know I'm not tech-savvy but I'm also not a complete idiot.  There is very plainly something wrong with either the links or the download itself.

So sorry to hear you're having troubles.  :(  Did you use the StarDownloader?

Hopefully Pestalence will have a new UAW installer done for Chris once we have finished testing, maybe you'd be willing to give it another try then. It really is a blast and Chris and his team put a lot of effort into it.

Keep your eyes peeled for a final version with an installer by Pestalence. It might be a while yet, but should be much more reliable to download and install.

F9thalphageek,

What Anti-virus are you running? If you are using AVG, then you will need to disable or even remove AVG completely. AVG is not compatible with Click Team Installers currently. Once you have the program installed, then you can re-install AVG.

Other than that, I am waiting for the files to compile a new UAW package for the community.. I may even incorporate it into Mod Chooser once I adjust Mod Chooser to accept more Mod Slots.

Anyhow, the new package will be great.

I am running AVG.  I can't be bothered to uninstall my freaking anti-virus for a game.  NO thanks.

Actually, I haven't had any trouble with AVG and click-team installers recently. In fact, I just downloaded OP Enhancement Pack 4.0 and it didn't glitch the download with AVG active. I will need to test it, but the last time AVG interfered with OP Enh. Pack, the icon for the installer didn't show up on the file. This time, the icon is there when I view the file in explorer. So I figure it's probably good.

I tried 3 more times to get UAW.  I don't have AVG, I have Anti-Vir.   I switched it off during the last 3 downloads.  Each time I tried to install it it hung up and froze at the 99% point.  Each time I deleted the unsuccessful attempt and re-downloaded the file.  Funnily enough, the last time I tried it told me I didn't have enough disc space.  When I started all this I had over 7GB of space.  I officially give up.

Actually getting the download hasn't been the major problem.  It's the install I can't seem to manage.  It always, and I mean always, hangs up at 99%.

If you are still game to try... as Pestalence suggested, try just disabling AVG when installing UAW (shouldn't need to uninstall AVG) and then turn it right back on when done.

your lucky your able to get it d/l'd at all. I've tried 8 times over the course of 3 months off 3 different links and I've yet to get it downloaded properly. It's a shame nobody want to break it up into smaller chunks so that 1 bad byte doesn't funk the entire download.

Much as I hate to do it I'll probably take up DIFJosh on his offer of mailing a disc.  I don't have AVG, I have Anti-Vir.  I turned it off on the last attempt for both the download and the install.  No luck there either.  This caused me to become exceedingly cruel to my dog and all 5 cats.

It seems to hang up at 99%, which reads as "TNGFullWOK".

Are you using Bonks' winrar version to download? several of us had the issue and bonk gave a download link to use with winrar and it worked for us who tried that. Winrar can be downloaded free on a trial basis for 45 days I think. I just did a google search and picked it up.
