Officer Exchange Program!
« on: March 05, 2006, 01:58:57 pm »
You can now transfer your account to another race on The Forge webmap "Transfers" page.  8)

Like the shipyards it requires that your forums login e-mail address match the e-mail address of the gamespy account for the corresponding server character. (if you are logged in on the forums it will load up the corresponding server character, if you are not logged in on the forums it will prompt you for a forums login and then load the corresponding server character if one exists)

I just transferred my Kzinti account to the Gorn and tested a mission as a gorn OK... gonna make my way to a Gorn base to check things out next.

This is a testing version of the function and currently only changes the race of your account. Everything else about your account stays the same; PP, glicko, ship, homeworld... later I think I'll add the ability to edit your homeworld so if your transferred character's ship is destroyed you'll be returned to an appropriate base (if actually necessary), and maybe the option to edit the character name.

The idea behind this is to eliminate the need for multiple accounts to change races. (as on SG5) This way I can keep tabs on characters linked to their Dynaverse.Net forums account, utimately for the purposes of tracking stats and kills over multiple servers and character roles on a server as well as permissions for the evolving webmap/campaign interface.

Warning: this is a testing feature so do not freak if your acount gets hosed (but I'm pretty sure it won't as I just tested it). Please leave feedback and bug reports here, thanks. (I have yet to add some error checking and the like to the page)

EDIT: note - you must be logged off the dynaverse server for this feature to work properly.

Thanks for testing it out. I like what you did with it, very Romulan... ;)

Was just thinking of adding a warp feature to edit your map location for a cost of so many PP per hex... math might be a bit tricky, any thoughts?

Man... amazing.

I'd say let your imagination be the star that guides you.

Doesn't work.  I tried to transfer from Korgath to Klingon.  When I went back into the game I was still Korgath.  Yet another innovation that does nothing whatsoever.

Does your Dynaverse.Net forums account e-mail match the gamepy account you are logging into the Dynaverse with? If not, this will not work. (see above, I have not yet added an error message to the script to tell you this...) It is working for others who have tested it.

The character account that matches your forums account e-mail (F9thalphageek) is Klingon in the database.
Your Korgath account (PirateGeek) DOES NOT use your forums e-mail as the login e-mail.

Please read the instructions above. The same applies to the webyards. They both work. If you pay attention and read the instructions, thanks. ;)

(I think I'll add some info to the Transfers page to make users aware of what character their forums account actually corresponds to on the Dynaverse server to avoid this kind of confusion)

That was the whole point of this - to allow users to play for different races all on one account that corresponds to their forums e-mail address so that I can track stats on characters in different roles and over multiple servers.

I wasn't gonna get involved in this, but if you two are gonna tag-team the poor girl, I'm going to ask a few questions.
First of all, I appreciate Frey managing the D2 forums and directory server.
I also appreciate Bonk's attempts to improve features, troubleshoot stuff, etc.
But..
Why the hell are you making snipes at the lady, 762? And don't give me any bull about just responding to her, since...
I think most of us could say that Frey's "litttle" form was a "little" in bad taste, since the form didn't provde any help to her problem, it just insulted her; at least, it would have insulted me if you posted it in response to my problems.
Also...
The beta test group, what are we beta testing? Are we actually going to test something eventually? If we're not, what's the point of it? If you guys are actually working to toward making something that needs to be beta tested, like this suppossed "omniverse" why not let people know? If it's just to give me a nice little blue name on the bottom of the forums page, I'll rescind my request. I thought I'd actually be doing something by now.

PS
Any karma drops you experienced today were prolly me. Or if not, I take responsibility for them.
Everything is sweetened by risk. ~Alexander Smith

Risky, or alpha, if either of you can provide a positive context for the above comment I will gladly withdraw my "snipe".

I have to say, in the constructive spirit that this thread was offered it seemed pretty negative, and I will make no apologies for pointing that out.

Karma back at ya buddy.

You're right, 762, I spoke in anger.  I will say that I am going through some nasty stuff courtesy of my Manic/Depression and my recent return to medication.  That's not an excuse; just an explanation.  Llama, thanks for sticking up for me.  Plus 1 to you.

Oh, and 762, when you want to "zing" someone you should probably check both the spelling and grammar of your post.  It helps bolster the credibility of your zinger.

I think it it should be taken in the spirit of F9thalphageek asking help on the subject.. I have flown with her and found that she is anything but negative.
No need to let this thread to get out of hand with irrelevant replies like mine lol...
And thank for the reminder Frey, we sometimes forget how much work goes into the provision for a fun time

Sarah, I'm not insensitive to what you're dealing with. But I would ask as a personal favor that you not run down people who are working hard to improve the D2 playing experience, just because things don't pan out as intended.

Bonk especially does a p00pload of work, most of which is behind the scenes. If features don't work as advertised there are nice ways of saying so.

We all have bad days; let's leave it alone and be done with it.

Not to worry guys, I understood exactly what was happening. Please give alphageek a little leeway in future, we have a good understanding. (though thanks for sticking up for me - not that I really need it...sometimes I find it hard to find the humour in the dumbass reply form.)

...and to be fair the Transfers page does offer very little feedback at this point, I need to add a few mesages to it to make everthing clear to the user. Such as the character that they are actually changing the race for... that would be pretty helpful.  :)
