Want transfer some info from an old hard drive to my new system, someone suggested to me that I link it thru the slave port on the IDE cable that is attached to my primary DVD burner.....

Will it work?

Yep, i've done it. set it up as a secondary HD and just transfer files from the HD into the other.

I've done it several times when helping people recover their data from a failed system (as long as the hard drive was still good). It's pretty much just like setting up a second hard drive.

That for me is the only way to do it. When I built my system I had to pull the hard drive off the old Dell and attached it as a secondary drive. Then it was a just a matter copying the files over to the new hard drive. You may need to change the jumper, but you should have no trouble at all.

When you buy a new HD, many company's will ship along a disk with a copy of a drive-copy program on it. It will copy everything from one drive to the other.
