Over 53 million pounds taken in Britain's biggest robbery

LONDON, Feb. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- British police confirmed on late Monday afternoon that a total of 53,116,760 pounds (over 92 million U.S. dollars) have been taken in the country's biggest ever robbery last week.

Assistant Chief Constable Adrian Leppard said in Kent that five men had been arrested in addition to the six people released on bail last week.

He said four of the men were still being questioned, while the fifth had been released on bail. The four are still being questioned over the robbery on a Securitas depot in Kent, southeast of England last Wednesday, Sky news reported.

Leppard added that the police hotline has so far received more than 1,300 calls from the public. A 2 million-pound (3.48 million dollars) reward has been set up for those whose give clues leading to the cracking of the robbery.

Police investigating the case are focusing on a group of martial arts fanatics, said the Sky News report.

Cash totaling 1.3 million pounds was discovered in a white Transit van on Friday and forensic tests are being carried out on the guns, balaclavas and flak jackets also found in the van.

Two men, aged 55 and 33, arrested on Saturday morning have been released on police bail, along with a 49 year-old man held later in the day.

The new arrests bring the number made in connection with the case to 11. A Securitas spokesman said earlier that at least 25 million pounds in cash was missing, but the amount taken even exceeds the estimate of 50 million pounds.

The Star Spangled Banner bring hither,
O're Columbia's true sons let it wave.
May the wreaths they have won never wither,
Nor it's stars cease to shine on the brave.
