Are they going to get into the Venom story with this one?  That would explain why his suit is black.

Hmmm...... that's not the black and white costume; it's just the red and blue costume colored black.

I suppose they still might do it that way, however.  I know venom is popular with a lot of people, but the whole venom story arc never worked for me.  I never cared for the alien-as-a-costume thing, and I never liked Venom as a villain after spidey finally got him (literally) off of his back.

There are so many classic villains they could do first.   I'd love to see Defalco's Hobgoblin saga get transferred to the screen first.  (And yes, I know spidey wore the black costume during the original Hobgoblin saga.)  I already know who the Rose and Hobgoblin are now, but the power struggle between Rose/Hobgoblin and Kingpin/Jackolantern and Law Enforcement/Spidey would still be good viewing if translated well.

And maybe they could even fix it up a bit towards the end.   It was a very good multi-year story arc that ended badly, mostly -- I'm convinced -- because Defalco was replaced as writer just before it wrapped up.

There was a long discussion on this image at aintitcoolnews.com

Bottom line: Photoshop fan hoax

They may or may not have a black costume in the upcoming movie, but this isn't it.

Then again, maybe not... Here's the Teaser for Spiderman 3... http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/spider-man_3/ Has a black suit. Of course the poster still could have been a fan hoax though.

If that picture were accurate I would be wondering if they were going to try and insert the Gwen Stacy storyline.

Can't put Gwen Stacey in there.

She died on the GWB- whether by our web-slinging hero's hand or the Goblin's, we don't know... but she's long gone by this time.

They've pinned the whole series on MJ- and with Kirstin Dunst playing her, I have NO PROBLEMS with that.

They have already changed the storyline from the comic.  MJ was mentioned for years and never on "screen".  Gwen was the girlfriend in highschool.  MJ didn't show up until after he was attending University and the Goblin was long dead.  To add in Gwen Stacy would somewhat rearrange the story line but also restore a crucial element of the comic book history.

As to who killed her my impression was that she was thrown to her death by the Goblin and Spiderman tried to save her and failed.  One of the basic events building his character, his first love being killed just to harm him.  (read about it years later in a review of Spidermans history)

I think it would just add mass confuion. Since they have gone with MJ all the way, I think they should stay with her. Although I will miss hearing the 'Face it Tiger, you just hit the jackpot' line MJ got during her comic apperance, I think that the movies have done well enough.

I've always held the opposite belief- that Spidey somehow killed her by trying to save her- and the accidental death of the girl he loved contributed to the love/hate relationship that Peter Parker has with his alter ego.

As I recall, Goblin tossed her and the cable car at the same time (like he did with MJ in the movie).  Spiderman tried to snag her with a web line, but the sudden stopping action of grabbing her snapped her neck.  (Like how you get whiplash when you're struck from behind in an auto.)

I recall several later comics where he still worred about this; trying to let his web lines out and swing people as he caught them, to reduce the shock.

All I remember is the caption saying 'she was already dead', and thought the Goblin had done it.

Edit:  Of course I didn't read the original issues so this bit from Wikipedia might've had something to do with it:

Quote
The original comic featured a "snap" sound effect next to her head in the panel in which Spider-Man's webbing catches her. Some fans believe this indicates that her neck was broken by being caught by Spider-Man's web. Other fans do not think this sound effect implies this. Further confusing the issue, some reprints of the story take out the "snap" sound effect.

The Death of Gwen Stacy section of her entry is actually pretty interesting, especially the editor's statements as to why she was killed off.
"Dialogue from a play, Hamlet to Horatio: 'There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy.' Dialogue from a play written long before men took to the sky. There are more things in heaven and earth, and in the sky, than perhaps can be dreamt of. And somewhere in between heaven, the sky, the earth, lies the Twilight Zone."

Way back I played some of TSRs Marvel super hero RPG and bought some things that I still have.  I dug out a reference on Spiderman and Gwen Stacey:

Quote
From "The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe  Volume Nine Book of the Dead: Dorma to Patriot"  Copyright 1987

However when Osborn relapsed the third time and again assumed his costumed identity, the Green Goblin kidnapped Gwendolynn Stacey, Peter Parkers girlfriend and threw her off the George Washington bridge.  Even though Spider Man caught her the shock of the long rapid fall had already killed Stacey

Volume 10 has an article on Stacey herself.  The Jackel cloned her and aged the clone to match her age.  At the time of the handbook publication the whereabouts of the clone were "Unknown".

Wow, this is neat.    We're having controversy over a storyline decades old.   ;D

Well, in the spiderman comics I read ages ago; I know that Peter thought he'd killed Gwen by catching her, and was very careful with others he caught for that reason.  I also see this from the earlier Wiki link:

Quote
In Amazing Spider-Man #125 (October 1973), Roy Thomas [editor of Amazing Spider Man at the time of Gwen's death]wrote in the letters column that "it saddens us to have to say that the Whiplash effect she underwent when Spidey's webbing stopped her so suddenly was, in fact, what killed her. In short, it was impossible for Peter to save her. He couldn't have swung down in time; the action he did take resulted in her death; if he had done nothing, she still would certainly have perished. There was no way out." They also explained that Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas, and Stan Lee had decided that she had to die because Peter Parker wasn't ready for marriage, and the relationship was too often off and on again.

Considering the TOS debates how is this surprising?  ;)

The same handbook quotes the Green Goblin as telling Spiderman later on that it was impossible to save Gwen as she was "already dead".  It could be taken as an admission that the Goblin had killed her before throwing the body off the bridge.

Well, it looks like Gwen Stacy is in this next Spidey flick, played by Bryce Dallas Howard.

Thanks but no.

'Gwendy' was a fricking prude.

MJ is fun and sexy.

They should have stuck with MJ; how in hell they gonna work Gwen into the storyline now? ::)

In the upcoming movie, she is supposed to be Peter's new love interest, and a rival for MJ.

No, I don't like it either.  I was a little dissapointed that they skipped the Gwen storyline, but they did it and i understood why.  I wish they'd move forward with the story rather than dragging someone up out of sequence.

What's the point?  Do they plan to kill her?  Her death in the movie would be the death of the "other woman", which would not have nearly the same impact as a story about the death of Peter's true love.

Unless they plan to completely reverse the rolls, kill MJ, and have Gwen be the one who comforts Peter later.   :o  OK, that would have impact.
