Thanks to an awesome modellor i know he started work on this kick ass ship from the star trek titan books, he is looking for a few pointers so if you have any please post.

and please dont say start from scratch cause you dont like the design lol thats just not nice rofl, post some pointers on areas you think could do with improvements that are close to the schematic

well a suggestion would be to rebuild the saucer...

i would build the saucer in one of two ways,

1 lathe it or 2 take a cylinder (24 iterations or better) set it to the basic silhoutte and extrude, scale and repeat till i got most of the general shape.  to get the bowl i would do an inward extrude and a bevel.

Yea I agree about the saucer.. I have seen no end of otherwise faultless meshes ruined by the lack of a continuous curve around the saucer (and to be honest these days with the rigs people are playing SFC on you dont realy need to limit the polies in such areas...). Also perhaps take a look at the impulse engines.. they dont look quite right. Over-all tho a good start given the dyre lack of references.

Btw can anyone point me to any sites with Luna class info and IMPORTANTLY pics? lol. At first I thought 'what a lame design' but it has really grown on me recently.

the ridges are there due to the schematic and not due to low poly limiting there evident on the art that was released

and here are the rest of the designs as you can see the ridges are on purpose

it's not a bad first attempt but the mesh seems  to be missing the "flow" seen in the pix..I think  it's  the pod/pylons thats killing it.

No you are clearly misunderstanding me... I mean that looking at the saucer you can see straight edges around the saucer that is meant to be a continuous curve (ie akin to using a hexagon for a circle... though obv it has more faces to the edge that 6.. but you get my drift I hope). I am not referring to the indentations.

ah i get what you mean, the shape of the hull tho isnt helping thats why you get straight edges i think

maybe it would be helpfull to  orient the wip shots  so they match the views provided in the original design pix? It would make nitpicking easier lol ;D

I think the shuttlebay may need to be a bit wider, but i could be wrong.

Looking good ^_^.

The saucer needs redoing, and the pylons as well.

the saucer i think just needs smoothing out abit on the edges shouldnt need an overhaul, looking at the schematics the titan's saucer is very different for what where all used to she has a three leveled look smooth, flat, smooth

sorry to do a jad lol

, also i think its just the back that needs doing most needs to be bigger and wider and the things need to look overlooking either way tho i think he is doing a kick ass job on it so far

i forgot to mention the secondary hull(the area where all of the shuttle and deflector are held in) needs to be lowered so it doesnt show on the Saucer

How many edges were used in the cylinder to create the saucer (I'm assuming that a cylinder was used)?  The saucer is already "smoothed out" and those edges won't disappear.  I don't think it looks bad, especially for an in-game model (and most of my saucer sections are worse), but if you want it smoother, the only way to do it is to rebuild the saucer, which doesn't look like it would be too difficult since every major section of the ship is it's own object right now.  I also agree about the impulse engines.  They need work.  Overall, this model is looking really good.  Can we see it with the edges highlighted or maybe as a wireframe?

he could prolly chamfer the sharp parts of the saucer to make it flow a little smoother.
