Assistance Needed with Dynaverse 2
« on: February 25, 2006, 02:22:06 am »
Or more accurately, assistance needed getting on to the damn thing.  Let me get to the point.

I want to play online, however, whenever I try to log in to Dynaverse 2, I get an error message.  I've attached a screenshot with the message.

Now, it's fairly obvious that I'm online, as I'm posting this (I tried logging into D2 not five minutes ago.)

I have a wireless connection.  At this moment the signal strength is at 'Very Good', which is where is usually is 95% of the time.
Could it possibly be because I'm not using the standard LAN?  But gamespy worked fine...

And my firewall is set to allow EAW and OP to do their collective things.  I know this because I used to play standard EAW ship to ship on gamespy with my firewall up without a problem.  I also played Neverwinter Nights with my firewall without a hint of interference from the firewall.  So I ask you...scholars and gentlemen...and maybe a lady or two...WTF is going on?!

Help me!  (I'll try to be there to tractor you guys out of the fire if you need it.  Can't seem to help playng 'crazy, nice, team guy' in the campaign.)

EDIT: Most importantly ensure you have installed this: SFC2 Directory Server mini-patcher for D2

1 - I reccomend fully disabling all software firewalls and anti-virus software while playing on the Dynaverse.

2 - If you are behind a router (and I assume you are as you mentioned wireless, but your public IP address is on a cable network), then you must use the DMZ feature of your router or more securely use port forwarding to forward ports 2300-2400 TCP&UDP and 47624 TCP to the static LAN IP of the SFC client PC. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240429) The router must accept pings from the WAN and its firewall and UPnP must be disabled. If you have not read the full users manual for your router (not the "quickstart" guide), then I suggest you obtain it and read it in full. The following site may also be of assistance: http://www.portforward.com/

3 - Read over the similar issues that others have encountered here in this forum: The How-To's of the D2

4 - If you're still stuck post again in this thread with more details; your OS, your router make and model, what software firewalls and anti-virus software you are running...

1.)  http://www.portforward.com/  Does not have my Router listed, NETGEAR WG311T.

2.)  ...WHAT?  The most in-depth computer class I've taken is BCIS.  Could I have that in english?

Perhaps it would be easiest to just connect directly through your cable modem when you want to play on the D2 if that will not disturb other users on your LAN.

Did you install the SFC2 Directory Server mini-patcher for D2?

Hmmm... the NETGEAR WG311T is a wireless ethernet adapter, not a router...

Forgot...my mistake.

Yeah, it's installed.  Still can't get on.

There's a problem with the cable in this house.  The guy who wired it daisychained all the cable cords.  It's going through so many splitters, not much of a signal get's through by the time it gets to my end.  The TV gets all snowy after channel 50-something, though the higher channels are still viewable.  And the best outlet with the clearest reception is in someone else's room, across the house.  That's why I have an adapter.  I get a better connection than I would using the cable adapter I have.

I can only suggest contacting your cable providor/ISP in that case: http://www.grandecom.com/

Though by the sound of it you are in a rooming house or apartment where the landlord has split the signal without the cable company's permission and informing them of the situation would get him in trouble.

Who set up the wireless router? You, or someone else?

Someone else.

Yeah, it was the previous owner of the house.  But he's got kids, so ya know.

The person I live with is a neatnik...and we're strapped for cash.

So what this breaks down to, essentially, is that I'm screwed from my roll to my yaw?

...this sucks.

Not if you can access your router and configure the DMZ or port forwarding.
