Cardassian Union Gamet class cruiser WIP
« on: July 17, 2006, 10:46:46 am »
This ship has undergone some major changes. The original mesh was a mess. I decided to redo the wings, and the head, and then finally the entire mesh. The only thing that remains from the original is the tail tips.

Now, I tried to move away from the Defiant clone syndrome. I squared up the nose even more, using a more octagonal shape, abiet widened, for the nose, and placed a spiral phaser inside the nose depression. I also formed the wing flow into the tail back, instead of forming the tail back under the wing like the original, and gave the wing more of a camber. I also gave the ship pronounced but diminutive warp plasma vents on the wing edges. Finally I did away with the Defiant bridge, and instead replaced it with a crew bulge like the one on the Galor, just much slimmer. I think it looks more Cardassian that way.

I still need to add alot more detail, but here is the clean mesh, uncolored, for your perusal.

Very cool. Kinda looks like the Hideki class.

Yea, its supposed to be a replacement for the Hideki. I never liked the original Hideki design, so this is my take on it.

I havent corrected the errors yet, but for the most part this skinny mesh is done. I added some greebles here and there, and placed a set of panels and a dome on the nose, where the bridge is located, so that drives the bridge location home. I also added the phaser emitters on the hull.

Note that this ship is not very powerful, or particularly fast...it is basically a match for a Klingon Brel, slightly more powerful than the Hideki, but not by much, though menuverability has been improved.

Here are the current pics.

1968 polys. I was thinking about adding more detail, but since this ship would most probably operate in packs of at least three or four, it might be best to keep the poly count where it is.

very nice raven

Thanks...I did have once concern though. Underneath, close to the tail. Note how the seperate tail section looks almost like its wearing shorts lol. It looks good on the top, but I think the bottom might look a bit odd....do you guys think I should slice it open, so the tail goes straight back on the bottom?

well you could make the belly go right to the aft section where they meet so the bely and the aft sections meat at the same point where the aft section ends...that is to make it more of a round shape from both sides...
..)(.. or something..

...and make the tail's be a tad smoother... the sections that face eachother that is...make them more continual and make the outers segments on the tails more sharp....
just a little bit not to much or it will look all wrong...and the connection to the tails a bit thiner and longer to accommodate the changes

hey you asked our opinion....

And then their was a scream like no other in the universe

You know, I actually like the model just the way that it is now - looks pretty finished to me.
