Do you like traffic? 10 top worst cities for traffic.
« on: February 10, 2006, 01:49:52 pm »
http://biz.yahoo.com/weekend/traffic_1.html

By the Texas Transportation Institute's reckoning, the cities having the worst traffic problems are:

1. Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Ana, Calif.
2. San Francisco, Oakland, Calif.
3. Washington, D.C.
4. Atlanta
5. Houston
6. Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Tex.
7. Chicago.
8. Detroit
9. Riverside, San Bernardino, Calif.
9. Orlando, Fla.
11. San Jose, Calif.
12. San Diego

Gotta love Cali and TX living!  Piss poor planning on mayors and city commissioners is more like it. >:(

My daily 2.5 hr round trip commute is through the winning #1 entry!

So Cal does have an excuse that Texas does not...... mountains

There are only two possible paths for me to take. Only so many ways through a mountain pass....

What's Texas' excuse ??  ;-)

The problem with San Diego is we put all of our transportation eggs in one basket -- the highways. We are also quite spread out --- and growing. The average commute distance between someones home and their work in San Diego is 25 miles one way.

I don't usually have that bad of a commute, but it can get frustrating trying to get out of SPAWAR during rush hour.

Great to see ya DM!

Hmmmmmm, TX excuse? Ummmm, illegals making up over 20% of our cities population? Ummmmm, cellphone drivers that cause accidents? Ummmm, we inherited most of the Cali people when we went high tech?  ;)

I say piss poor planning, and greed. Cities love tax dollars and a booming economy, but they do not like spending on better or more roads. Now, thanks to closet Ricky boy, Austin will have it's first toll road and it's going up much, much faster than our federal and state funded roads.  >:( Now some private companies want to do that with 290 going from Austin to Manor. The citizens are saying "Hades no, you will not give our roads to some private company where we do not have a voice!"

I think the poll was fixed.

The poll was skewed by heavy turnout from Houston and DFW drivers. I live in Louisiana, but having driven through, being terrified, and ultimately surviving both the Bayou City and the Metroplex, Austin seems a bit more tame by comparison.

Austin really is not so bad. Aggressive and fast but mannerful most of the time. From 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 - 9ish a.m. you are screwed, and from 4:30 p.m. to about 6:30 p.m. are also bend over and go stop, go, stop, go times.

I know what you mean, it must be something in the water or the cattle that they eat. In El Paso Texans drive sane, but those N.M. people drive like numbnuts.

I am surprised the NY metro area and the I95 corridor from Boston to DC in general isn't on there.

Maybe, like a football great, they retired the I95 corridor....

I have a really cool Korean neighbor that used to work high tech in San Jose. He told me that it is one of the most stressful places to work, much less drive. He loves the Austin laid back and casual atmosphere in our workplaces.

True that. But you had to see this waitress. Fall-dead gorgeous...

I guess I should use drop-dead, but this lady was so good-looking that drop-deap would be an insult. I've met a lot of good looking women, and this one is still the hottest one I've ever crossed paths with. She looked like Carey Lowell from "Law and Order", but was better looking....
