Omniverse Campaign ?'s
« on: February 09, 2006, 11:14:07 am »
This Omniverse campaign sounds like the one I run,... only I do it with for a small number of players, without the database, it's PBM.  It uses SFC-OP to resolve battles generated when humans meet, results are translated back into the campaign scale, thank god for Magnums Sector Assault damage tracking import/export ability !!

I like the ideals Frey wrote about the Omniverse campaign

http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163357537.msg1122584833.html#msg1122584833

A while ago when I first came on this board I was seeking other campaigns that existed.  I wanted to compare the game I run, to others in rules and methods.  I was shocked that I got zero responses except for Dynaverse games.

After ref'ing games for years I wanted to try a hand at playing in a quality campaign.  I currently struggle with trying to enjoy the Dynaverse games but find AI opponents a drag (although they are tougher than I am used to :), and repetitive missions to flip a hex equally uninspiring.

On thing I did find in my search for a quality game was a equally enthusiastic crew out there in cyberspace, with a similar love for the game/genre.  I may not have found my ideal game yet,. but I am pleased to have met you folks and become a newbie to the crew.

I am interested in when the "new" release date guestamate may be for this Omniverse game ( I saw December listed)?

and any other info that you may now have,.. I have read the old threads on it.

Thank you Frey for taking on this project, it does have the potential to re-energize the fan base.  Hell my base is already a quivering  :)

The December date was from a while back, I got sidelined with a bunch of other stuff since. (mostly working on the serverkit itself, like the recently added PvP DV shifts to put the focus on PvP and address the issue of hex flipping and AI missions that necessitated the ungainly disengagement rule)

Roughly the Omniverse interface will be an extension of my current SQL webmap but will add admin features like automated account creation, an OoB interface, map and character edits, kills reporting and forums integration, possibly an online gf editor and server control, plus whatever else I can think of or is suggested and practical to implement.

No promises on a delivery date however, but hopefully it will be soon, we are making progress on a stable MySQL serverkit, which is why I postponed work on this as a stable MySQL serverkit is pretty much a prerequisite for the Omniverse.

Well thank you for the work and time you put into it, it is appreciated by all.

I look forward to being part of it when the time comes.  Tonight I got my first night to myself and I plan on checking out Chris's UAW Server, while slugging back a few beers and,.. getting what our crew has termed a smokey bridge hit.

Back in the board game days we used the Battle Damage Cards Code Red to deliver internals and invented our own critical hits.  One was finish your beer, or do a shot,.... another was Smokey Bridge hit.  I will leave it to your imagination to figure that one out  :)  Needless to say while playing SFB it can be quite debilitating to get hit with some of those.   Ah the old days of spending 5 minutes deciding if your going to slip right or turn right :))))))

Thank god they are gone !!!!  Used to take 2 days of 8 hours each to resolve some campaign battles !!!

 "Smokey Bridge Hit" Hahahah! I wish we'd though of that. I think that's why the old SFB games used to take so long to resolve...  ;)

Yes no doubt that had something to do with it.  I have actually seen first hand players who in the past board style games would tie one on during battle drinking with the crew and slugging it out.   Now a days with the inability of folks to pause the game I hear this,...  "OH no this is an important battle I need my wits to me I will pass on the shots, thank you"  It has been noted by many that these fast pace games are hard to fly well with blood shot eyes or whiskey breath.   :)

Some still insist on having fun pre, during, and post battle regardless of the consequences to their flying.  They say screw it, we play to have fun, and they have fun even if they are defeated.  One insists he flys better with blood shot eyes cause that is how he practices when at home  :)

To each his own I say  !!!
