A new version of an old model:
The Bird of Prey has been a long-standing symbol of the Klingon Empire's reach across the galaxy. Since before the days of the Federation, birds of prey have been enforcing the Empire's will, defending it's borders and bringing new worlds under the heal of the Imperial boots. With the dawn of the 25th century on the horizon, the Klingon Defense Force sought a new and improved Bird-of-Prey to usher in the new postwar era.
With the extensive knowledge gained during the conflict with the Cardassians and the Dominion, Imperial engineers began development of the W'ked class Bird-of-Prey. Named in honor of the long standing and noble House of W'ked, and partially funded by it's members, this new starship incorporates the latest in technology and design. Key weaknesses in the aging B'rel workhorses were addressed: notably hull strength, weapons compliment, shields and propulsion, as well as enhancements to the cloaking device and emission dampening.
The W'ked is typically equipped with a standard forward mounted torpedo launcher, a pair of wingtip mounted heavy dual-disruptors, and two pairs of medium disruptors fore and aft. In addition, ablative armor plating and enhanced shields along with multiply redundant backup systems ensure that the W'ked can take considerable punishment and still continue operations. Matched only by the Federation's own Defiant and Cobra class destroyers, the W'ked class Bird of Prey has proven itself to be a formidable and worthy successor to the Bird of Prey family and stands to continue the legacy on into the 25th century.
