I killed Jesus. Would you?
« on: February 06, 2006, 03:05:47 am »
A fever will do strange things to a mind. Hallucinations and things done and remembered that wernt real at all. Yet, there I stood on the beach. Calvary hill in the distance with the three crucifixes standing high among a multitude of people and roman soldiers.

Instantly I knew where and WHEN I was. And just as suddenly I knew I wanted to be back home in bed and take another double dose of fever reducer, but strangely, I didnt feel hot anymore. The air was cool and the skies were overcast with a hint of storm clouds on the horizon.

Curiosity got the best of me. I bounded up the hill. Who wouldn't? Who wouldnt want to look upon the face of their god? As I approached, I overhead, and understood, several high ranking roman officers discussing their new orders of what to do with Jesus. They were preparing to cut the three men down. Something about better alive and just a man, than a dead and idolotrized martyr.

Upon hearing this I spun around and nearly doubled over and noticed the hill was covered with perfectly flat round stones. My head began to swim. It was difficult to think because the implications were enormous. What if they cut him down? I didnt even begin to ponder this when action struck me like a sword. I saw a roman soldier behind a tree lifting his skirt. One swift strike to the back of his head with a flat round stone put him down and I switched clothes.

I took his spear and climbed the rest of the way up the hill. I saw the sign hanging above the center crucifix. Iesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm, Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews. I wasnt but a few feet away when I heard the roman officers drawing near with a sword ready. This was the moment, Strike swift and true. Kill him!

I don't remember what happened next. Everything is a blur. What I can remember clearly is how much I didnt want to do it. I wanted to be back at home and pull the covers over my head and pretend everything was fine like I had always done before. I wanted someone else to thrust the spear. Anyone but me. I didnt want to take responsibility.

I guess that is God's message to me right now. To take responsibility. He didnt have to make me kill his son to see it.

Whoah, heavy stuff man... is that a quote or is this your own fever dream?

I really cannot say what I would do, but I don't think it would have been quite the same if a spectator had finished the job and not the Romans.

Have you ever seen "The Last Temptation of Christ"?  If not, check it out, more food for thought. (Excellent soundtrack too...)

Stephen, my pneumonia, or RSV.... Im having it cultured today, the doc said it was pneumonia and sent me home with some antibiotics which arnt helping much afaict. My 3 kids have it... God bless my wife I hope she doesnt get sick she is taking care of us all. Tired of feeling so damn near death. Got to get a shot of something to breath. ::gasp, wheeze, cough::

Yeah, that was my dream, Bonk. I remembered it cuz my wife came in right as I was about to spear em and woke me up. Told her about it and thus remembered. Pretty vivid stuff. Heavy is an understatement. I remember in my dream tho, the only thing I really looked at when looking at the crucifix was the sign.

Stephen

It was an Easter tradition to go see it at the alternative theater with my group of friends a few years back, plus we're big Peter Gabriel fans.

I have a hard time watching "The Passion" as it kinda stole the title of Peter's soundtrack and I can't help but compare the two movies.

And no, you certainly won't find "The Last Temptation" at Blockbuster ;)... its pretty difficult to find a rental copy. Even in a big city I could only find one "alternative" video rental shop that carried it.

Wow, really well related Diz, it gave me chills (and I don't have a fever, just a really bad toothache). Interesting that you remember only looking at the sign.

P.S. Hope the both of you get well soon, a bad cold really sucks!

Would you be able to kill Jesus while looking into his eyes? Mb thats why I dodnt remember actually doing it. That was part of the message I guess. Its easier to do something when you dont have to take responsibility for it.

I think Dizzy has the worst one , Pnumonia suxxers. I just become mean and irritable, so I'll just lock my self in my office with alot of BC powders. I really thought I would beat this one though this year. When I told my sis-in-law that I now had to kill her or spreading this damn bug, she told me Brett my nephew has It also. Personaly, I bet he just wanted to stay home and play on his x-box.  ;D

So Dizzy, I take It your staying home through this. Of course, Prayers and respects going your way.

I know I couldn't do it. Then again, i'm a big softy on that Jesus thingie. ;D

Well, it begs a huge moral dilema..

Suppose you came upon the Christ on the Cross, and it was within your power to take him down. But, if you take him down he doesn't die for the remission of sin, and you save God, only to damn mankind.

Would you leave him up there or take him down?

I've pondered this question since I was about 10 years old.

My question came to me via the pre-teen concept of time travel.   ( I think I'd just read my first couple of time travel novels that summer, and thought they were neat.)  Then one day walking from Sunday School to the Sactuary for service, I found myself daydreaming about standing on the road to Calvary, with an M-16 slung over my shoulder.  I'd *want* to do something, but should I?

I think in my daydreams I always ended up sneaking close to Crhist and whispering, "Hey, what should I do?"

I sort of figure he'd tell me to get out of the way and stop being a damn fool.   God doesn't need rescuing.

Is it about taking responsibility Dizzy? What makes you think you had a choice? Quote from Jesus "everything is fixed and you can't change it"
Do you sometimes feel you are pushed to do things you don't want to do? I think your dream is about how we don't take responsibility for the things we do and act without considering the consequences. There is an old story in the Bible about how Abraham took his son  Isac to the mountain to sacrifice him because God asked him to, but in the last minute God asked Abraham to put down the knife.. I think this story was meant for the later generations to act upon when it came for God to sacrifice his son for mankind, difference is that mankind did not show the same mercy.. so it must be wise to learn from the leasons of the past and use them as a guide for the future.

I remember seeing the Last temptation of Christ, what i remember the most was when an Angel cuts Jesus down off the crucifix and i was so angry that someone could think of such a thing and put it in a book or a movie, imagine Christ not dying for my sins!!!! It's at that moment i realised how evil i was, wanting someone else to wipe my sins away, Now i find myself responsible and accountable for all my actions , no excuses....

Does one kill his God in order to wipe away his own sins?, or does one learn from his own mistakes and asks for forgiveness and stops sinning?

The spiritual truth, and an awful truth it is, is that we are all guilty of killing Jesus.  If we weren't so... hellbent... to sin, He would not have had to die for us to wipe out that sin.

Welcome to regular, normal humanity, Diz.  But, and forgive me, there appears to be another point to the message: okay, now that you've (helped to kill) killed Jesus, what are you going to do?  And since He has died, forgiveness is offered.

It figures you would unravel the entire evil plot!

Hmmm... the biggest murder of all time and li'l evil ol' you wasn't in on it!

Seriously, from the orthodox Christian theological perspective, no one is innocent of that murder, until forgiven by Jesus.

24When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

25Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. (Mom...?  Dad...?  How 'bout you leave me out of this, huh?   :-[   )

26Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

How could I kill someone that never existed?  I merely blew the concept of a God or a savior or anything metaphysical away with the movement of my mind like blowing the aerial seeds off the head of a dandelion.  Poof.

There is more physical proof for the existance of Jesus of Nazareth then there is for the existance of Montezuma (In terms of multiple accounts and physical evidence).  You think there was actually a Montezuma?

We all killed Jesus........ and He forgives us.

Peter tried to prevent God's plan of salvation from going forward
and Christ rebuked him with "Get behind me Satan!"

The only one who could have stopped it was Christ Himself.

And He wouldn't

Thank God.

So are we discussing the dream, or the existance of Christ.  Once seems to be a nice Ten Forward topic (Barely).  The other is definately gonna need to make its way to H&S.  Of course wouldn't have been an issue if those who "don't belive" could have just ignored it.

Nope, I haven't killed anybody, especially not someone around 2000 years ago. Sheesh, I'm only 41, not 2041.
