Is there anyone in these hallowed halls....
« on: February 05, 2006, 02:16:20 pm »
Know about setting up DSL, from Earthlink?

the mdm ACT light is dim and will not go solid at all.

All of the other lights (power, and one other, ethernet, DSL). are all lit.

Would anyone have anyideas of what it might be.

Diags says that PPPoE cant be found. I am not in the 'East'. I am in the west.

I will still look on earthlinks website to look for answers.

I take it that no one knows how to troubleshoot a DSL mdm then.

<goes sulking in the corner> :(

Here is the problem:

All of the Lights on the mdm are normal, the only one that is not normal is the ACT light. It is dim and not fully lit as it should be.

I have tried everything, power cycling the mdm and my pc, reseting the mdm. and reseting the VCI/VCP.

none of which works. The ACT light should be bright off the bat. when you power up the mdm. It does not.

Short of that, I may need to reinstall windows, though I will try everything first. THEN reinstall. IF I have to.<----Last resort  ;D

The mdm is a Prestige 645M.

My syst is more then capable of handling DSL  ;D

Sorry just saw this, But man, I have no experience what so ever with DSL. you might be able to call the ISP or Manufacturer for help. I know It's a pain, but It might be better in the long run.

I don't have any experience with DSL modems either but why don't you try this site I think they can have you up and running in no time.  Midnight Tech, Stephen, and I both use this place and I can't think of a better place to go.

Why not call their tech support? Sure, you might end up on hold for 20 min to speak to a tier 1 "Specialist" who couldn't find his ass with both hands and a flashlight, and no matter how many times you've power-cycled the damn modem you'll have to go through the same process again! Then they'll transfer you to a tier 2 specalist (In house code for handing you over to the condescending asshole who hates customer service and likes to hurt the general public)

Wait a minute...why were we calling tech support?!
