.600 Nitro Express Hand Cannon
« on: February 01, 2006, 08:44:24 pm »
I found this on another forum and I thought some would think its interesting. In the first post there is a link to a couple videos, the first is the owner and the second the range officer. They're in quicktime and are about 15megs each.

http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=bigbores&Number=34889&Forum=All_Forums&Words=&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=1week&Main=34889&Search=true#Post34889%3Cbr%20/%3E

(EDIT) Sorry I thought I had included. Damn stupid if you ask me.

Is this a .60 calibre gun?

Yes, this is a .60 calibre (bloody Brits ;) ) TOY.

Sorry, I cannot in good conscience call this a weapon, or even a gun. Both of those words describe a tool that is good for the purpose of sending some kind of projectile downrange- even when used in the 'this is my rifle, this is my gun' context from Full Metal Jacket. ;D They describe something useful, that has practical applications in the real world.

This is a TOY- something built for fun that has little or no value in realistic use.

It was simply done to make a really cool post on a gun forum.

Hell, because of my back problems, I had to trade in my .45 for a .40. I don't even want to think of the recoil on that monster.

No it's not.

The TC is perfectly legal in the US... I've fired one in .45-70 a couple of times.

Watch the video to see the recoil.....the "lite" load blew the guy back 5 feet and looked like a 1700's musket going off.

Yes it is. It's not the gun, it's the caliber. Check with BATF if you have any doubts.

Postman, going to need chapter and verse if I'm to believe its illegal. If I can buy ammo for this gun in the states I'm doubting it is illegal, BATF would shut that operation quicker than.... I've been doing some searching and I can't find very much on the subject of the largest legal caliber. There are a lot of people that are still shooting big bore rifles and they don't seem to be ending up in jail and they even post on forums. I know there is a line there somewhere......

Every time I think about it I end up chuckling, who in their right mind would chamber a Thompson Contender in .600 Nitro Express?

I like this one better:

Though this one shows more practical promise:

The days of chemical propellant firearms are numbered.

I was under the impression that any rifled gun over .50 cal is classified as a "destructive device", meaning it's regulated just like a machine gun.

That is exactly correct. Any centerfire weapon over .50 needed to be registered in 1968. Not only is this gun not registered, it is new, therefore it is totally and completely illegal in the states and good for 10 years as a guest @ the graybar hotel.

Heh, old inside joke when I was in the army.
Whenever they issued me a light machine gun I'd go on a rant about their not being a bayonet attachment... sure as hell wasn't gonna kill me no $%#@&^% phantasians with blanks was I?
