Universe At War Dynaverse - a question for Bonk

This is is directed at Bonk but intended for all to see.

Bonk -

I am nearing the release of the 2nd Official Patch for UAW and am wondering if you would consider, or be able to, host another UAW Dyna. The last one you hosted was more fun than I could handle, lol. It was very stable, and the folks on it were happy. Questions have come my way as to the possibility of another UAW Dyna. The Shiplist we used the first time would be ok, perhaps with some reccomended changes by you to help it in the Dyna setting. I appreciate any consideration.

I had hosted that one on my own server. It was fun!  :)

Problem is I'm on dial-up at the moment so I can't host it on my server. Perhaps when KCW is over we could look at running it on the Xenocorp dynaverse server host or if another server might be free... theoretically I could run it on the same server as The Forge, when I last ran UAW I ran it on the same server I was running SFB-OP on and it didn't seem to cause any problems.

Check with Frey, and chances are we can rig something up for ya depending on whether anyone else has dibs on the server or if he's OK with running it on the same box as The Forge... No promises though. 

If the scheduling works out, I'd be more than happy to set up another run... just have to go over the old files to see where we left off.

UAW seems to be picking up steam of late..    8)

Glad to hear it, its a dang cool mod that works really well on the Dynaverse. It adds a whole new flavour to the experience.

We'll have to sort out a bunch of details once I get the go ahead from you and Frey. Shouldn't be too much work though. (I hope...  ;D)

FYI there will be a race change for the Dyna this time (if there's a Dyna) - The Andromedans have been moved to the Aliens, and The Imperial Alliance (Mirror Universe Federation) takes its place. Pirate Feds, lol.

Sounds reasonable, I can't be too specific about timing either as I'll have to coordinate with Josh, but once you send me the test shiplist I can get started on it.

How often do you actually see plasma in Star Trek?

I'm shooting for a 'Star Trek' feel = note that drones can stay as some races use missles here and there - but they'll be reduced in number.

TOS had plenty of plasma... "He's a sorcerer that one..." ;)  But UAW is a TNG feel so I guess it would be consistent. But in TNG we tended to see fewer battles altogether, I'm not sure I ever saw a Rom ship fire a weapon on TNG... bloody peaceniks...  ;D

Not sure why you'd want to to that. Wouldn't that require considerable edits to your shiplist? Or we could just leave the primarily plasma races out if you want. Its up to you really, it's your baby, I'm just the technical hands for the Dynaverse server.

I got the server info from Josh, just need a shiplist to get started with now...

You might also want to start thinking about the map, I think we just used the stock mid map last time, but I could use the map from The Forge if you like or the classic Fed&Emp map I last used on SFB-OP... or we could design a new one if you like. Stew on that a bit and let me know what you think.

Lemme dig up the old UAW Dyna thread to look over what we did last time...

Once we get testing it might be fun to think up a set of informal VC/VPs or we can just go with the same relaxed setup as last time.

I'm thinking this shiplist is good for some Herr Burt style VPs however... (like screenshots of a nearly impossible to capture ship captured... stuff like that). I'll be running it on SQL so there is the possibility of PP bonuses, map edits and the like...

Gonna do a little preliminary work on the server setup today.

Tell me more about the Forge Map - How different is it from the one we used last time?

I ran some co-op ace tests today with the No Plasma and it did feel more like Star Trek to me, which I enjoyed. I'd like to keep the Dyna in late/adv era if we can - a TNG dyna. 

I'll be zipping up a shiplist/ftrlist for you later today - gotta tweak it just a bit - making sure all the ships I know people like are available, also certain Starbases if you wish. Love that.

Those Alliances look ok - lets stick with what we had before.

I guess we could have a beta server before the 2nd Official Patch is actually released. I like the relaxed setup we had before, but what would you suggest for some informal Victory Conditions - seeing as we have 16 races to play with here. I know someone will want to take an Alien and try to clean house, lol.

Ideas from the community on VCs/VPs?

The Forge's map is considerably different from what we used last time. (check it out here: http://www.dynaverse.net/webmap_op_sql/)

The stock map we used last time should be fine, I was just wondering if you might want something different.

Cool, I'll be awaiting the shiplist... sounds reasonable to do a beta server before the official release of the second patch, makes sense in case the server test might affect what you want to do with the patch.

Relaxed sounds good to me too, but perhaps a few challenges for PP bonuses or the like might be fun, to add interest.

Making progress on the server setup at cugs. Shouldn't be too long before we have a test ready.  :)
