SFB Question... Plasma Interceptors
« on: January 25, 2006, 01:54:38 am »
I'm still working on my Mode for OP and I'm having great success with implementing Interceptors for all races after I learned how use the Donor system.  But just recently, I notice that Intercpetors with lots of Plasmas are downright frightening compared to other Non-Plasma Intercpertors.  I'm using SFB Module K as a guide to designing my INT's and wanted to ask other people if they think INT/PF's in SFB are severaly too powerful with all the Plasma Torpedoes they have on board.  Even a Romulan Centurian is aremed with 5.  Isn't that a bit too much?

Granted, maybe this is a nessessity For the Plasma Races, but compared to Fed INT's and Klingons INT's, it just seems that they can dish out alot more fire power then either one and the R-INT has Cloaks.  In SFB, a Rom Intercpetor is armed with a Single PH-1 and 2 Plasma F's.  I was thinking of changing it around and giving only 1 Plasma F and 2 PH-1's because I have feeling this might make them a little more comparable to other Interceptors (same with Gorn and ISC).  Do people object to this idea?  Is it best just too stick woth SFB protocal on this?

OP has changed things from the original game for various reasons and I think that one must keep a balance to the game so I would agree with changing that.

I am curious though what is the Donor system?

Doaner system is where you use say a fed ship to give rommies fighters and rommies to give feds pf. Its more complicated than  that  but it is a general description. you have to put  the fed in the rommie section and visa versa.

I do agree, there is little point in making the mode if there isn't some balance to it.  After some testing. I did change SFB Romulan Deucarian INT's to have 1 PL-F and 2 PH-1's, they seem to be a little more balanced with other Interceptors, but then I ran into problems with them using cloaks.  Not sure why, but once the Roms fired their Plasma they would cloak but not try too rearm the Plasma Torps and fly around at top speed while cloaked.  :o  Now, I'm not sure if this is a bug with cloaks, or possibly another type of bug that I may have found.  What I mean is, SFB Intercpetors are suppose to have a Movement cost of 1/6 (or 0.1666666) so I decided to apply this too my mode aswell, but for some reason the Interceptors could fly at high speed (sped 29-30) while easily arming there weapons.  I'm wondering if there might be a bug there where the game has a hard time accounting for weird fractional numbers (like 0.166666) because I then decided to use a more "whole number" of 0.2 and they seemed to perform more like there SFB counterparts.  I had a Rom Intercpetor armed with 1 PH-1 and 2 PL-F's going at a top speed of 24-25 but only going like speed 16-17 when arming its weapons.  Another thing I would like to point out with PF's and INT's is that I think the game tries to account for them to have Lifesupport and Sheild Energy cost, while in SFB, INT's do not pay either to use.  The only way around this is to either give them a point or two of warp or Auxilary power, other wise some races INT's have a hard time arming many weapons at all.

But I'm still wondering about the Cloaks.  I haven't yet tested as much yet, but could there be some bugs with the Cloaking system for PF/INT's?  Would people object if I made Roms have no Cloaks?
