Hello, everyone.  My name is Alexander, and I just stumbled upon this fine site.  I'm a very old fan of the SFC game series and have been since the days of the Taldren forums.  It's been years since I've played the game, but just last week I dug up my old copy of SFC2 and immediately remembered how much I loved it.  What really struck me though is how much support the SFC series still has on the web!  When I ran a search on SFC game support on the web, I didn't expect much outside of a few "how to..." text files dating back to 3 or 4 years ago.  I was always led to believe that the SFC franchise fizzled out after it was revealed that the classic SFB storyline would not be continued with SFC3.  Anyway, I have alot of questions.  All of them focus on SFC2 for the moment since I haven't had the pleasure of playing or owning SFC:OP or SFC3.

Do any multi-player/dynaverse servers for SFC2 still exist?

Are there any mods out there for SFC2?  If so, what kind?  I've herard alot of talk about fans making their own Tholian and Andro campaigns when it was revealed that the SFB storyline was going to be abandoned, but that was years ago when the Taldren forums was still the focus of SFC game info.

Are there any fan-expansions for SF2?  Missions that don't solely involve blowing up a random ship, perhaps?

Aside from missions, did any fans take it upon themselves to expand the game in other ways?  (ie: new weapons, visual effects, new ships, etc.)

Exactly where should I start with all this potentially new (for me at least.) material?

Some introductory insight on this place would be very appreciated.  Thanks!   :D

first of all welcome. There is alot of stuff  for eaw here. Check out the eaw dl section on this website. I think there is still a server running on eaw strays tavern.
Most of us are now playing op. Prety much the same  game with more stuff. You might check out ebay or some place like that and see if they have a copy.

SFC2, I take it you mean Empires at war.
Well try the Dynaverse II Exp section of this site. But I should be frank and say EAW's no longer receive the most focus.

Tholian and Andro I think were proven infeasible with the amount of access to the game engine that's publicly available.
Mods mostly involve graphics and models. (Look for Chris Jones mods and the models' section) New visuals and new ships are abound.

But New weapons are impossible, as that requires access to the program at a developer level. But there are plenty of "easter egg" features. For example current mods allow fighters and PF for everyone.
Most amount of progress I think are made on the Dynaverse front. There are missions written specifically for Coop dyna play, a weak point when SFC2 was first released.

Here is a good place, start by checking out these forums.

As for insights... if you like SFC2 enough, consider getting SFCOP.

I see.  Thanks for the information.  I'll probably check out a copy on Ebay fairly soon here.  So OP has pretty much become the staple of the SFC world, I take it?  Are there multiplayer servers operating for that game today?

Most people around here concetrate on "major servers." These are usually themed somehow and run a month or two apart(to give time to recooperate, stop failing school, patch up relationships, sleep, etc. One such is finishing up tomorrow(the Klingon Civil War which all the posts in the D2Experiences are about presently).

Also running are more relaxed servers like the Forge, Bartok's Basement, Straaay's Tavern, and from time to time a few others. These usually run for longer periods of time. At present from these, the Forge and Straay's are up, and another if I recall correctly, and since Bartok has been playing on KCW, his might go back up soon.

You couldn't kill this place with a Magic Photon.  ;D We get new members each day, and the game is constantly being ran somewhere in this mythical place called Dynaverse.

If you get the chance, Get your friends to pick up a copy, we are the kinda place that while we may talk smack, esp. those darn Klingons, we always stick together. Yeah we will be here for years to come.

^Ahhhhh, Now that's what I'm talking about.  If it grants me the opportunity to smack up a few Klinks then count me in.  First, I have to find a copy of OP.  That shouldn't take long.  I found that second hand retailers have copies in abundance.  I can't wait to get in the game.  ;D

Too cool. I know every know and again, we get some people looking for copies of OP. Like I said Great game, Great community. where like that age old adage, yeah we pick on each other in jest, but don't let someone else make fun of our family here.

If you get the chance, a few things you might be interested in, is there is a new Dyna book out, made by us here on the forums http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/board,3264.0.html

I believe Chris Jones is gearing up for a server, One of the best mods out there IMHO. UAW is the name, + he sometimes runs a live Internet radio station with trek stuff on it.

If your a fed Player (ie. the Blue Plague) I strongly suggest getting with the 9th Fleet or Xenocorps for training. but with other Races, there are plenty of other excelent fleets.

and most Importantly, Have fun Bro. That's what we are all about.
