Ok, I have been a long time fan of SFB and think the game system is pretty sound.  After watching some season two episodes now, I wonder if Berman is trying to lead Star Trek in a different Direction and Timeline.  In case you didn't know, SFB's history is somewhat different to Star Trek and in some ways I like SFB's universe a little better then Star Trek had to offer.  On Enterprise, I've noticed a lot of the situations happening on the show really remind me more of SFB then Star Trek.  Maybe that is why I keep watching it.  The shows have unique stories I like, but I think it is neat to see some stuff that relate to SFB aswell.  I thought it was neat to see to see Romulans and Tholians involved and I hope they do introduce a Major conflice between Romulans versus Humans or whoever is involved (vulcans perhaps).  Ya, the Klingons are introduced a tad early for Star Trek, but it is about right when Humans came into contact with Klingons in the SFB universe.

Before I came up with the theory that Enterpise may very well be a different timeline compared to Star Trek.  Maybe Bermen is focusing Enterprise more like (or exactly) on SFB universe History.  Ok, this is a radical idea and I could be very off on this, but it is possible.  Even this Temperal Cold war could be explained well into the story.  We all know that Space and Time are linked together in the universe.  you could appear anywhere in the universe by place and time, but maybe this ability is very limited even in the 29th Century.  Maybe Time Travel is possible, but only into the past.  And when they are in their own time, they could not use time Travel tranverse large distances because they can only do that if they go into the past.  In their presend time, they would have to use conventional means of travel (Warp, Transwarp, Slipstream, or whatever).

I'm just bring this up because I think it would be really interesting if Berman relates the Show Enterprise more on SFB then Star Trek.  Heck, at least SFB would be legitamized as a universe and could at least keep that franchise going if Star Trek is dying.

Hey, they did it with Robotech/Battletech, why not Star Trek/SFB?

There is a canon war between Humans and Romulans that should happen around 2157

This isn't technically true.  I was speculated that first contact happened in 2218, but this is non-canon

It is a pen&paper game out of the early 80's that SFC, SFCII, and SFC:OP was loosely based upon. It is also a contentious subject matter that usually results in a lot of bloodletting, frothingt at the mouth, an generally causes a lot of folks to leave their brain at the door when involving themselves in the debate.

I suggest you run for the hills and hide...I'm right behind you.

OK now i'm really confused!  If SFB is based on Star Trek, why does it have its own universe.  And secondly if Rick Bermen decides to go in the direction of SFB, then he will abondon 35 years of Star Trek (which he is doing at the moment with Enterprise)  and be ridiculed by the Star Trek Commmunity.  In fact there is already a webpage cdollection names from the ST comm.  To try and get Berman out of office.  Hes ruined Star Trek with Enterprise, and if he ruins it even more by going into this "alternate" universe that looks like Star Trek, he will be making a serious mistake!

SFB was a Pen & Paper board game based on TOS (technically it was based on the technical manual, not the show)

The Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Gorn, Kzinti, and the made up Hydrans and Lyrans were in the game.

The background information was more detailed then that of Star Trek.  Over time it was expanded to have more races, including the Andromedan invaders.  It is considered the SFB universe because it was never shown on air, nor sanctioned by Paramount.

I think I got that right, considering I never played it before.

As for why B &/or B would switch to the SFB universe:

They don't technically have to switch.  If they encounter a Kzin or Lyran ship, it won't violate any continuity.

Hmmmm...Interesting. Did anyone see the episode Canamar? The ships that were chasing the prison transport had a Lyran feel to them with those projecting paddle-shaped  things in the front. Maybe B&B are closet SFB fans.

SFB was created in between when TOS was canceled and TMP first came out. It kept interest in Star Trek when there was no more Star Trek except for reruns. It's history naturally is based on lots of wars between the races. After the first edition it skewed off of the "Star Trek" history and developed it's own (mostly because there was no new Trek to base it off of) so From the original races (Feds, Klingons, Kzinti/Mirak(from the animated series), Tholians, Gorn, & Romulan) new races were added (Hydran, Lyran, Andromedan, Seltorian) as well as fighters, pseudo-fighters (mini-ships/patrol boat), etc. It's history IMO is richer and more interesting than the "canon" universe.
