Hexx I dont want to be a PITA, however...
« on: January 13, 2006, 08:56:12 pm »
U know I will, ;) I want seperate model folders for the different sides. I'll be willing to alter the shiplist myself. I had a mission once before where all the ships, mb it was a fed civil war server or something, but I couldnt tell who was FoF. So being able to alter them to tell them aparty would be cool.

Allied means it's a friend. No allied marker means foe... ;D

I find it hard to believe that if the Klingons broke out into a civil war, they would take time to repaint, or redesign their ships  ;)

You have to know who your allies are, and always watch your back !!   You're a Klingon aren't you  ;)

Cap't Jeff, get real. If you want to be realistic, there would be a way to tag each K ship so we see FoF like black and white. But without messing up the screen with useless F10 crap, the only way would be to alter the textures. Thats why we have to have seperate model folders for the two sides.

Your suggestion is silly. Call it an IFF tag, or telescopic recognition of fleet insignia flags, the only way to represent it visually in battle would be the texture route... That is all.

Also, FS's giving all the class variants specific defined model variant folders was bad afa sensor warfare and range identification goes. Even at extreme range, you can just hit F4 and see what ship class variant you are facing. That shouldnt be the case till they get within the proper identification range. Thats for purists tho. Most peeps are interested in eye candy. Personally, I agree with corbo that if all we saw were flying boxes, I'd be just as happy.

I vote against the idea as it will complicate the installer and delay things further, if it is not implemented in the installer then players doing it manually will inevitably introduce errors and people will be forever crashing out of missions on model errors.

That, and I like the idea that it will be tough to tell friend from foe... it is a civil war. (or uncivil as the case may be... ;))

Allied, not allied. difficult concept I guess... ::)  Look if you really are having a problem instead of being a PITA, at the start of a PvP mission, assign the bad guy(s) to one of the open presets (5-8) after the 4 weapons group. Assign bad guy #1 buy using ctrl-5, bad guy #2 to ctrl-6, your wing if you need to, to ctrl-8. I'm sorry but this isn't brain surgery.

taken from Dizzy's words:   I agree with corbo that if all we saw were flying boxes, I'd be just as happy.

and you want different looking boxes

I would vote to keep models as they are.  we do have the allied word for allies, and the F5 to F8 works well, and Tbombing your own team is expected. ;)

I liked the idea that someone (or many) would get confused.  Figured that was part of the campaign.

Easy solution Diz- all you have to do is have you and yours stick to D6's
I'm pretty sure no one else will be flying them, and they already have their own model folder.

<sigh> sometimes I'm so brilliant it huts...

after some brillaint searching of firesoul's models i found a pink D6, E43, and Fsomething or other, which must be what the brilliant hexx speaks of.
I also realized for the first time that all the firesoul models are not stored in the main model directory, thus someone needs to disruptor me.

I repeat my motto:

I am allied to all ships outside of disruptor range.
I am not allied to any ship within T-bomb range.

Have a nice day, wussy.

I'm so thankful we don't live in an SFC Democracy. I'm sure whatever Hexx does... it will be brilliant as usual. Either way, I'm fine, I just happen to deck out my servers with all the glitter and thought I'd pass the buck to Hexx on this one. Not that anyone has noticed... or cared... I just like to collect my own white stamps. I know you worship me. You dont need to say it.

And to you naysayers to the extra model folders that cite complications... It would be as transparent as some of the tactics you blokes use in battle against me. If put in the installer, you wont know it exists... Even granting the nod of even using tactis goes too far for some of you...
