I think it would be more interesting if the second saucer was attached at the rear ala a nebula weapon pod pylon configuration as opposed to the way ya have it now.

not nessecarily. That may interfear with the warp  field. Field Dynamics would suggest the saucer be where it is IMHO. Plus, carrying it like that would leave the ship vulnerable to attack in the rear, and any ship  sent to unknown space would need  to be nearly as combat capable as a battlecruiser because it would likely have a destroyer escort.

LOL did the Oberth ever have a destroyer escort ? Field dynamics, are they distorted by a Nebula class configuration ? If the secondary saucer faces aft on its docking pylon it would still be able to defend the rear of the ship. Actually for an application like this the Nebula class ( or a varient there of ) would be idealy suited for an application such as this ( and a great idea for a bash  :P) Replace the weapon pod with a secondary exploration saucer. I say loose the second saucer AV and release this bad boy because it's one sweet ship design. Just my $.02.

Don't lose the second saucer, it's a great idea for a science vessel.  Besides you can always release a modified design for those who want to have it as a standard Federation Cruiser.

the second saucer is a great idea but if i may put my 2 cents in how about having the science saucer intigrated into the botom of the main hull kind of like they do with the captians yaughts?
