Congrats to San Diego on the new wind farm
« on: December 28, 2005, 09:20:02 am »
This is the wave of alternative energy for the future. Storm and I saw a much larger facility than just 25 turbines. 15 miles long, and God only knows how far north in the TX desert it stretched.

30,000 homes powered off only 25 turbines, that rocks! Solar cells are getting far more efficient too. I might invest some money in two companies I've been watching as they do not follow the DOW at all, they are on a course of their own as other world markets embrace this technology.

The Tech is getting there, Larger capacities with smaller Windmills needed. The one I'm looking at will be about 64 KW/h. more then enough to run both homes and barns.

775 Megawatts by 07. I guess the alternative energy people are not playing around. This is what you call getting things done in a timely manner.  ;)

Umm...I was just gonna strap people to treadmills and make them generate electricity that way.

The only problem with wind power is using land.  Might as well cover the Rockies with these damned things and get some serious power off the high winds up high.

Another idea I had...a little absurd perhaps...was to take helium balloons and tied em up offshore to bouy's, and on the balloons would be light weight windmills.  Power go down to the bouy etc...

Plenty of maintenance to be done on those things keeping em defouled and running right.  Lifetiome jobs for plenty folks.

The problem with that is the force of the wind would push the ballon to the end of its teather and tilt the windmill off center...so it wouldnt rotate.

Rondo, half of Cali is desert, half of Texas is desert and plains, same for most of the SW states. Not my fault if a bird is sooo stupid as to fly into a moving fan!  ;D

I'd much rather live under a wind turbine than a grid of heavy voltage electrical lines.
