Frank Sinatra Quiz
« on: December 19, 2005, 02:32:46 pm »
How well do you know Frank Sinatra?
For no real reason, I'm going to post these questions (it was actually a homework assignment for me, so, if I was smart, I would have posted these questions before it was due ;) ).  Send me a private message with the answers.  This is just for fun, of course, but don't try googling for the answers (although it probably wouldn't be hard).  For a bonus question, there is an unrelated question in my signiture. :)

1. Frank Sinatra was born in what city and state

2. In 1935, Sinatra entered and won a radio talent show.  What was the name of the show?

3. Sinatra's big break came when he joined a big band led by which trumpeter?

4. After leaving that big band, Sinatra next joined a big band led by which trombonist?

5. By the early 1950s, Sinatra's singing and film career had stalled.  His big comeback came when he gave an Oscar-winning performance in which 1953 film?

6. In the 1950s, Sinatra left Colombia records for which record label?

7. In 1961, Sinatra co-founded his own record label.  What was the name of this record label?

8. Besides Sinatra himself, name two members of the "Rat Pack."

9. In 1971, Sinatra announced his retirement from recording and acting, but later came out of retirement with the album "Ol' Blue Eyes is Back" which was released in what year?

10. In what decade were Sinatra's two best selling albums, "Duets" and "Duets II" released?

Well, have fun and good luck.  Let's see who knows the most about Frank Sinatra. :)

Give it a try, even if you only know a couple (I couldn't claim to know every question when I tried to answer it).

I'll give the answers on Christmas.  If you want to take a guess, you have only a couple of days left.

And, for the bonus question (only one person tried to answer this):

Name a popular Christmas Song that contains the words "Beverly Hills"

Here is how the song begins:

The sun is shining
The grass is green
The orange and palm trees sway.
I've never seen such a day
In Beverly Hills LA.
But it's December the 24th
And I am longing to be up North.

Did you get it from that?  Well I didn't.  You can get it pretty quickly if I tell you the next line, though

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know.
Where the treetops glisten,
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write.
May your days be merry and bright.
And may all your Christmases be white.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write.
May your days be merry and bright.
And may all your Christmases be white

If there's anything i can do,
Just call on me and i'll send it along

1. I don't know what city, but I'm pretty sure The Chairman was born in New Jersey.

Aside from that, I can't remember all of Frank's trivia, except that it was "From Here To Eternity" that reignited his career, and later was turned into a scene about a Frankie rendition in "The Godfather".
