A Christmas wish for all here....
« on: December 25, 2005, 04:26:25 am »
My Christmas wish for you, my friend
Is not a simple one
For I wish you hope and joy and peace
Days filled with warmth and sun

I wish you love and friendship too
Throughout the coming year
Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer

May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totaled by the lot
May you find all you've been given
To be more than what you sought

May your journeys be short, your burdens light
May your spirit never grow old
May all your clouds have silver linings
And your rainbows pots of gold

I wish this all and so much more
May all your dreams come true
May you have a Merry Christmas friend
And a happy New Year, too  !

I wish I could post the actual audio, because it's a beautiful, and very moving, song:

GROWN-UP CHRISTMAS LIST
(Foster / Thompson / Jenner)
Amy Grant - 1992

Do you remember me?
I sat upon your knee.
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies.
Well, I'm all grown up now,
But still need help somehow.
I'm not a chile but my heart still can dream.

So here's my lifelong wish,
My grown-up christmas list,
Not for myself, but for a world in need:

No more lives torn apart,
And wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
Ev'ry one would have a friend,
That right would always win,
And love would never end:
This is my grown-up christmas list...

As children we believed
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely wrapped beneash the tree.
Well, heaven surely knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal a hurting human soul.

No more lives torn apart,
And wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
Ev'ry one would have a friend,
That right would always win,
And love would never end:
This is my grown-up christmas list...

What is this illusion called the innocence of youth?
Maybe only in our blind belief can we ever find the truth!

There'd be...
No more lives torn apart,
And wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
Ev'ry one would have a friend,
That right would always win,
And love would never end:
This is my grown-up christmas list,
This is my only lifelong wish,

This is my Grown-up Christmas List!

Here's my favorite, it is a stirring theme:

Peace On Earth - Little Drummer Boy
David Bowie, Bing Crosby - 1977

...
David: And this one. This is my son's favourite. Do you know this one?
Bing: Oh, I do indeed, it's a lovely thing.

Come they told me pa-rum-pum-pum-pum
A new-born king to see pa-rum-pum-pum-pum
Our finest gifts we bring pa-rum-pum-pum-pum
Rum-pum-pum-pum, rum-pum-pum-pum

Peace on Earth, can it be
Years from now, perhaps we'll see
See the day of glory
See the day, when men of good will
Live in peace, live in peace again

Peace on Earth, can it be
Every child must be made aware
Every child must be made to care
Care enough for his fellow man
To give all the love that he can

I pray my wish will come true
For my child and your child too
He'll see the day of glory
See the day when men of good will
Live in peace, live in peace again

Peace on Earth, can it be
Can it be

Bing: Pretty thing, isn't it?

A sample of it recoded from my scratchy old 45 copy on a turntable with a bad bearing.

The CD complete with video from the original Bing Crosby TV special is available here.

Just a tad late ( I'll be better next year..honest) but

If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season,
It would be that all the children to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.
If I had two wishes I could make this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands
and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace.
And the second would be for 30 million dollars a month to be given to me, tax-free in a Swiss bank account.
You know, if I had three wishes I could make this holiday season, the first, of course,
would be for all the children of the world to get together and sing,
the second would be for the 30 million dollars every month to me,
and the third would be for encompassing power over every living being in the entire universe.
And if I had four wishes that I could make this holiday season,
the first would be the crap about the kids definitely,
the second would be for the 30 million,
the third would be for all the power,
and the fourth would be to set aside one month each year to have an extended 31-day orgasm,
to be brought out slowly by Rosanna Arquette and that model Paulina-somebody, I can't think of her name.
Of course my lovely wife can come too and she's behind me one hundred percent here,
I guarantee it. Wait a minute, maybe the sex thing should be the first wish,
so if I made that the first wish, because it could all go boom tomorrow, then what do you got, y'know?
No, no, the kids, the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. But wait a minute, who am I kidding?
They're not going to be able to get all those kids together.
I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible, more trouble than it's worth!
So -- we reorganize! Here we go. First, the sex thing. We go with that. Second, the money.
No, we got with the power second, then the money. And then the kids.
Oh wait, oh jeez, I forgot about revenge against my enemies!
Okay, I need revenge against all my enemies, they should die like pigs in hell!
That would be my fourth wish.
And, of course, my fifth wish would be for all the children of the world to join hands
and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.
Thank you everybody and Merry Christmas.

-Steve Martin
