Beware of deadites bearing gifts...
« on: December 17, 2005, 11:58:02 pm »
Ironically posted exactly one year after the last "Klingon Khristmas":

The Klingon Empire has never been one to scoff at the concept of new warship designs, in fact they reveled in the very idea of dedicated battle-wagons. During the height of the cold war between the Federation and the Empire, this predilection towards ships of war reached new levels with the development of the B10, Sword of Khaless, and Accuser classes. With these and other full fledged warships at their disposal, the Klingon Defense Force felt content that they were still on par with their old Federation nemesis. That attitude was severely shaken when a convoy raiding squadron was obliterated by a new Federation battleship, the Carolina. Imperial Intelligence had been mislead as to the construction of such a ship and as a result their own shipyards were caught flat-footed with no immediate way to catch up.

Fortunately for the Empire, the starship facilities at Monarik IV had already been quietly designing their own supership with the only roadblock being support from the High Council in approving construction. The Carolina provided the perfect motivation for the Council to approve the new starship and construction began within a month and was completed less than two years later. The Monarik engineers had kept economics and efficiency in mind in developing their new ship, viewing previous battleships as glorified, resource-depleting monsters with short service life-spans. Their ship, dubbed Qun'HoH (Godslayer) after the legend of Kortar - the first Klingon and killer of their 'troublesome' gods - was created with the future in mind. Recognizing the undoubtable need for new technologies and upgrades, the Godslayer was built with extra room and additional 'empty' compartments to allow for easier refitting. This had the added affect of increasing the ship's already large size to provide for a more imposing appearance. Using technology based on that of the captured U.S.S. Hood, warp drive efficiency was nearly doubled and power distribution and economy was quadrupled. This assured that the Godslayer would never be plagued by the power supply and weapon energy deficiencies of her predecessors.

The engineers installed a pair of forward mounted heavy-torpedo launchers in addition to the six standard photon tubes. Over two dozen disruptor turrets were strategically placed throughout the ship's hull, covering every critical area and potential blind-spot. An experimental Ion Cannon was also installed in the ship's nose - causing the designers to cautiously relocate the command superstructure closer to the rear than most other Klingon designs. The typical heavy armor, standard on Klingon warships, and strong shields were also incorporated with redundant shield emitters in key positions. A large hangar bay with 'through-deck' capability was placed at the rear of the ship, giving the Godslayer the fighter contingent of a standard carrier.

These characteristics would prove crucial in the oncoming war with the Andromedans, allowing the Godslayer and her sister ships to overwhelm the typical Andro starship with relative competence. Ironically, the Qun'HoH and Carolina never engaged in battle against each other which was the primary reason for the Godslayer's creation. She would, however, get the last word as she and other ships of her class stayed in service far into the 24th century while her Federation counterparts were destined for the scrap yards.

Christmas?

That thing looks more like something you'd see coming to visit for Day of the Dead... dead Freds, that is!

All this Birdie wonders is if the Knotheads are planning to let us import one or two. ;)

(Quickly regains composure)
The design makes sense.  A ship would be more stable if the engines were in front of the center of gravity.
