Stupid Crooks or a lucky Victim
« on: December 06, 2005, 01:13:32 pm »
OSLO, Norway - When Vegard Sjaastad delivered a pizza near the western Norwegian town of Aalesund, there was something familiar about the customer's credit card. It was his card, and had been stolen the day before.

"It was like I met myself in the doorway," the 24-year-old said by telephone Tuesday. "It was my picture on the back of the card."

Sjaastad, who manages a Peppes Pizza restaurant, his drivers license and his Visa card stolen from his car on Saturday night at his father's house. He canceled the card, and reported the theft.

He was training a new driver on Monday, and they delivered the pizzeria's 'Film Package:" a pizza, soft drinks, and the film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on DVD.

A man with a credit card answered the door, and clearly did not recognize Sjaastad from the picture embossed on all Norwegian Visa cards.

"I wasn't going to play hero. I'm pretty calm by nature. I just accepted the card and said 'I hope you enjoy the meal,' as we always say," he told The Associated Press.

With the address from the order form in hand, Sjaastad called the police to give an exact location of the suspects.

"I figured they could enjoy the pizza and film, as long as it lasted," he said.

Police arrived about 30 minutes later, arrested three people, and recovered suspected stolen goods, at least some of it Sjaastad's.

"I expect to get my stuff back tomorrow," he said. "This is just great. What you might dream of."

and this reminds me when my brother got tires and his 8 trac radio stoled from his car. the idiots tried the next day to sell them to his friend who happend to be a cop and reconized the stuff, and busted them on the spot.

LOL... that's poetic justice at it's FINEST!
Everything I did in my life that was worthwhile I caught hell for. - Earl Warron

The advantages of living in the Heart of Dixie- low cost of living, peace and quiet and a conservative majority. For some reason I think that the first two items have a lot to do with the presence of the last one.

Stupid crook news is always fun... but...this?

"He was training a new driver on Monday, and they delivered the pizzeria's 'Film Package:" a pizza, soft drinks, and the film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on DVD."

That is actually a pretty cool idea...

I heard a story where a guy burglarized an electronics store while it was snowing and than walked home.  The police followed his footprints to his front door and found all the stolen stuff inside.

I can add some that I have read of.  Some stupid some unlucky some both.

Cop intervenes in an outdoor domestic dispute.  Guy gets mouthy.  Cop demands ID.  Guy smirks and hands it over.  Cop arrests him.  The ID was stolen during a burglary - it was the cops.  (Happened in Toronto).

Idiots steal an ATM machine by chaining it to the back of their truck and dragging it home.  Alarms go off.  Cops arrive at the scene and follow the gouge in the road to the backyard where they are trying to open it.

During a hi speed chase the criminal couldn't understand how the cops always knew what he was going to do next.  He was signalling his turns.

Criminal escapes jail.  Leaves state and goes to baseball game.  Standing in line he feels a hand on his shoulder and is called by name.  The warden was next in line.

Man rapes a woman and robs her (including cell phone).  Cops show up and convince her to try something.  She calls her cell phone and tells the rapist how much she enjoyed and wants to do it again.  Rapist shows up with a bottle of wine and is arrested.

Car jacking.  Victim put in trunk without being searched.  Pulls out cellphone and GPS calls cops.

(Old one) Man steals car with carphone.  Gets call about "his" (the owners) ad to sell the car.  Is told that the caller will pay cash right now if he brings the car and it is in good shape (it is).  Of course the caller was the car owner and the police were waiting.

High speed chases.  Man abandons motorcycle and takes off in stolen golf cart.  Another man while being pursued on foot steals a "steam roller" (top speed ~2mph).

Jailed criminal asks for day pass to attend a funeral.  Denied.  Escapes, steals car outside prison.  Drives to funeral.  Steals a different car to return.  Parks it outside jail and breaks back in.

Fugitive with name with unusual spelling appears as a contestant on a live broadcast of the Price is Right.  The officer in charge of the investigation watches the show.  Police are waiting in the wings when he is escorted off stage.
Do unto others as Frey has done unto you.
