Shiplists & Errors
« on: December 08, 2005, 04:58:12 pm »
OK, I was (am) under the impressiion that if I designate
the C7 as Restrcited (or whatever) the yards will not produce them
but the AI will happily use them to kill you fools

Dizzy's recent comments seems to suggest that this will cause errors?

Is this correct?
Could I get a (plain english) confirmation and/or explanation?

Plans must be made..

This is where DH an I disagree. Yes, you need to worry about DB errors. There is a direct correlation between the number of players online, the size of the DB (errors cause this to skyrocket exponetially when there are large player numbers), the number of forfeits that occur on the map by disconnects or intention or otherwise and the speed of the computer that is hosting the server.

After a while (hours or minutes), DB errors catch up to you and the server wont hold very many players before crashing.

Dont use a shiplist that spews forth DB errors. Dont do it.

The serverkit needs at least one ship, per ship class, per era, available at all times, otherwise AI matching goes loopy. Shipyard production can be modified by class so that certain classes are less likely to show up. It is not even necessary to restrict the C7 if these gf file settings are done correctly. They must be tested with the current map and econ values. Ships higher than the a CA class can simply be priced out of range for the shipyard for the shipyard to produce. No database errors or shiplist fudging. Restricting ships from appearing in the shipyard is only viable when there are still other ships of the same class being produced. This is not strictly done by the server, as easrly era has no BC class ships, but you have DN class ships that are in the same BPV range to compensate. On KCW, we will not have this luxury.

Every GW server ran with these "errors" and they were stable with 40+ players.

True, but KCW has far far less ships in the shiplist. We'll find out one way or the other if it works.

Hexx, you're an idiot of u listen to DH. Listen to what me and tracey are saying or u'll frack it all to hell.

If you are getting confused, here's what you do: Take FS's Klinks, copy and paste them in all the cartels stock shiplist and then rename their race name and first letter ship designations. Mission test to make sure C7's dont draw dreads and CA's dont draw C7's. Fudge bpv's where you can get away with it.

Very simple Hexx... Want me to do the shiplist? Take me 30 mins for an error free job. And whatever you do, dont use FS's master list, just copy and paste the FS klinks into a stock list. And use SG5 bases, FRD's and DEF's.

What you dont want to involve the shiplist with is this: Price out of range all the BC and DN crap and change the build probability for those ships so they wont show in the yards. Hexx, you cant simply go editing thru the shiplist like you are picking pumpkins. Your pie will reek.

Hey!

Leave Diz alone!
He's trying to help, he did offer to do the list

And more importantly, the poor guy's
just trying to talk himself up before facing me with equal ships
on the server.

No, I'm just making sure MY race will have more reloads.  ;D

And yes, I am the Dyna_Almighty... Hell, I'm gonna go register that name... What I say is law.

For you diz-pickers, I didnt tell Hexx what ships to use or add/cut/modify/(mutilate), only the technical aspects of the whole lot. The flavor is all up to the chef... But yes, he does have to use regulation size pots and pans and an approved oven, thank you very much... jeez.
