your best bet would to be to look on ebay, descreet no longer distributes v4/4.2 so the only way you'll be able to get it is through ebay or someother auction type method.

You could also try checking with Universities and Colleges - they may have upgraded and have older versions that they don't need any more which they might sell to you if you ask nicely.

Speaking of colleges and universities what classes would one take to learn more about 3D modelling?

That varies greatly from school to school.  I'm a student at Texas A&M, and I've been taking ENDG (Engineering Design and Graphics) classes.  They teach you how to use different graphics programs, such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, Inventor, and 3ds max.  Are you currently in college, and if so what school do you attend?

I have a bunch of friends that went to UT,  and you wouldn't believe how many Aggie jokes I've heard over the years.  No offense to the Agiies,  you just spaked a memory.  ;D

I'm sure you've heard some good ones then, although the best ones are the ones that we make up ourselves  ;D.  t.u. is our historical archrival (check out the last post in this thread for a full background http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163358466.0.html), though now they claim that Oklahoma is now their main rival, but that's only because their football teams are better matched against each other.  I love A&M and loathe t.u., but I have to admit that the Aggie football team is usually nowhere near as good as their team, though we did give them a good scare a few weeks ago.  Up until the last few minutes, it looked like A&M could actually win and screw up the entire bowl schedule for everybody.
