Need opinions from anyone who has bought or used a PDA. Looking for one that the wife can use to get better organized. Address book, phone numbers, birthdays, what toys and DVD the kid has already, that sort of thing. Something that can sync up with the PC to share and update info. Thanks.

I'm currently using a Dell Axim X50v Pocket PC (Dell has since replaced this model with the X51v).  Very nice screen, easy to use, and less expensive than the comparable HP iPaq.  Check out these sites: www.aximsite.com and www.ipaqhq.com.

I use a Palm m505. It is not top of the line, by any means, but it is a very good basic palm pilot. The highest point in my mind is that the battery recharges off of either the PC or a wall outlet. I'm not sure what they run for now, but it is not the latest model, so it shouldn't break the bank. They do make some organizers that aren't PDA's, but do sync to the PC.

If she's an organized person to start with then a PDA can help her be more efficient.  If she's very disorganized to start with, the PDA won't help and she'll never have it around and charged when she needs it.

Good point. I'm aiming for a simple PDA with easy interface so that she can get organized.

Don't have a good track record with her and electronics. The last "device" I bought her was a Sidewinder emergency cell phone charger (hand-crank). She was rather insulted.

I'm a bit of a computer geek, but I find the basic Palm to be pretty simple and intuitive, whereas the "I-Mate Jam" PDA/Cell Phone that my wife bought is Windows based, and cr@p in my opinion..... Like I say, I would recommend the Palm M505 for a basic PDA...

Apple's iPod has a notepad and calendar built into it, so if she's really into music and you want to show her how to sync the calendar and notepad with the PC, you have a 4-in-1 device with HUGE storage

I've narrowed the selection down to the Palm Z22, less than a $100 and only thing missing that would've been nice is  a microphone input.

I actually don't, but I googled it. Not for what the manufacturer says, but what users have to say, and they seem to like it as a good basic PDA. It sounds like a winner.

I have a Zire 72, and am happy with it.  I got it used with a Wi-Fi card for a great price, and it plays great chess.  It also keeps me organized, has a camera, and plays MP3's, and video. 

For what you are trying to do for your wife, that Zire 22 sounds like a good deal.  I've read up on it, and seen it in stores, and it looks nice.

What would you think of getting a used Zire 21 om eBay for 30 bucks?  It's a monochrome screen, and it has the basic Palm organizer stuff.  The monochrome unlit screen helps out on batery life.  If she likes the Zire 21, but wants color you can move up to the Zire 22. 

If you buy one used, make sure it has all the stuff, the cables and software.
