To my understanding, this product from ADB has shipped...I've been kinda intrigued by what's been on ADB's website about it, but talk about sticker-shock! $60! So I'm wondering if any SFB-buffs around here have put it through any paces yet, to see if it's worth picking up, or dropping some hints as a gift request. Any thoughts?

Haven't played it
One of my friends back in ottawa picked it up and sent me a quick note that he likes it,
(and we had kinda tried SFB, but way to much to remember)
Doesn't think it will do well though as the minis for SFB are still terrible looking compared to other
stuff that's out there.
Still from the bit he's said it's SFB lite, and the games run a bit faster.
(Might be alot faster once he learns the rules)

Seems (imho) a game designed for people that either play SFB but don't have quite enough time to play, or
already were interested in playing, but didn't want to hack their way through tons of books.

Doesn't look like something that will grab a bunch of new players.

Not going to rag on it here as I have done elsewhere.  I simply wish that ADB had figured out how to make SFB easier to play instead of setting up a new line with its own cadre of expansions.  The player reviews I have seen have been positive, but this is the initial impression.  What the long term replay value is we have no idea.

Well they (imho) kinda had to go with a new system, making SFB accessible is not going to happen.

and (again from waht I've heard) Fed Commander *IS*  a playable/learnable ,faster paced SFB
If that's wha your looking for pick it up.

If what you're looking for is a game that will attract a number of new players ,avoid it.

I also find it funny that this game was scheduled to be released last year at this time for half the price.  What a difference a year makes.

We accomplished that in my old group by getting rid of about 2/3's of the rulebooks and playing exclusively with tournament rules. A lot easier, much faster games, and a lot less rules lawyering.  :help:
