D-Link Router Won't let into D2
« on: November 23, 2005, 09:22:24 pm »
Evening all!
Finally...I'm almost ready to venture into the Dyna...but my DI-704P router won't let me join in the fun! I keep getting the "firewall running/offline" message and can't for the life of me figure out how to open those ports needed. Mine is the first one shown on the support website (the brown one).
Thanks in advance

Better heads then mine can prolly help you out, but I'll give this a shot.

Did you apply the Directory Server patch and/or check to make sure the correct ports and port ranges are open on the router?

Directory Server patch applied...and that's just it...there's a place to set ports in there...but no way to tell it what to allow through (unless I'm just flat-out missing it somehow....).
I'll post pics of that page from router setup if needed.

Which revision is your DI-704P?

A) http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DI%2D704P

The DI-704P Rev. A has a brown case.

B) http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DI%2D704P%5FrevB

The DI-704P Rev. B has our newer titanium or silver case.

or C) http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DI%2D704P%5FrevC

# The DI-704P Rev. C has our newer titanium or silver case.
# The DI-704P Rev. C has the same case as Rev. B but has a newer, faster CPU.

No problem...running 98SE and tried it with Zonealarm on and off...so it's gotta be in the router.

No text manual, one gigantic "Quickstart" guide... grrrr... downloading now... Wil probably be no help but will take time for me to download over 31.2K dial-up...

For the love of God, leave zonealarm off at all times when playing on the Dynaverse.

Required ports:
47624 tcp
2300-2400 tcp&udp

And allow pings.

Or use the DMZ. (not preferred)

Is your LAN configured statically, or are you getting a local IP address from a DHCP server on the router?

I'll check back after I've finished downloading the "Quick start guide". Gonna go to the store while it does...

You said it about no manual....only reason I like it is that it has a print server built in so I can share my laser prinrt over network easier.
Router is doing it through DHCP. Tried static and it was a pain in the **** so I went back to dynamic.

Ah, neither port forwarding or the DMZ will work reliably with a dynamic IP address.

My strategy for static config: get your DNS server numbers from winipcfg(98) [slect the lan adapter] or ipconfig (NT/XP) if the router passes them directly to the client through DHCP, if the router acts as DNS proxy then get the DNS server addresses from the router WAN connection info. Set tcp/ip on the client machine to static config, enter a private IP address outside the DHCP range of your router on the same netmask, enter the router IP LAN address as the gateway and enter your DNS server IP addresses. Presto, static config.

Got the DI-704P "quick start guide", gonna look at it now...

As expected, lots of pretty pictures in the quick start guide... but there is some useful info.

It indicates that you should have a printed manual.

The local IP address of the rotuer is 192.168.0.1. To configure statically, enter this as your gateway.
Then set your static IP address to 192.168.0.5 and enter a netmask of 255.255.255.0.
Enter your primary and secondary DNS server IP addresses as indicated on the router information page (hopefully displayed there).
(the quickstart guide neglects to mention this...)

All this applies to your TCP/IP settings on your machine - NOT the WAN connection settings for the router...

Now this quick start guide has no info as to how to set the port forwarding or DMZ settings...

Checking the FAQs on the site...

first look was how to configure AOM:
http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1436

but "virtual server" will not do, for full directplay finctionality you need to be able to enter a port range of 2300-2400 tcp and udp (as well as 47624 tcp....

Still looking...

Ensure the router is allowing pings from the WAN. (under IP Filters perhaps?)

It appears there is a "static routing" section on the later revision 704Ps... is there such an option on yours?

The site is all out of info, we need the printed manual for your router.

Early model does not seem to offer this...or not that I can find. No manual received with router-just the quickstart thing...I might just connect directly while gaming or use that Belkin one.
At the D2 login screen, it asks for email, password and username...that the Gamespy info?
EDIT: I found something that might work...attaching picture.
SQL test is with 2552, directory fix, and no other mods right?
